not sure of what the rooms are like, or what the hotel offers, but it is directly across from the beach and a wonderful location. The beach is excellent for both swimming and walking, and also has a small area reserved for surfing. It is a town beach, though, with a fee for accessibility. I am not sure of the daily rate.
I stayed at the Village Inn for 5 days this June - was attending a nearby conference and this was the hotel they had us stay in.
It is right across the street from the Bay but it is a walk to the beach itself.
The hotel itself is OK, rooms were odd=shaped but neat and clean. About one third of my triangular room was up one step, so you would go up one step then quickly down a step to go outside to the teeny balcony. The bathroom was also an odd shape. Nothing wrong with the odd shapes, just odd.
Also some folks had their rooms changed because they overlooked a the VI very loud outside bar.
There also is a large porch outside the 2nd floor ballroom\function room. They do a lot of weddings there and if your room overlooks the patio it will be very loud.
There are quite a few restaurants and shops within a short walking distance. The Village Inn is really in a nice location.
I would just like to clarify here: what alfisol states. The Village Inn is actually right across the street from the beach. The walk there will take you less than a minute. It's not a bay beach. The daily price, as of 2008, is $7/day. (Adult price).
The Village Inn is definitely in a nice location; if you need alternatives you may want to check out the Anchor Motel or the Scarborough Beach Motel. Both are several miles south and are directly across the street from Scarborough beach. This is a state beach where there is a charge for parking but not an admission charge to get on the beach as at the Town Beach. If you are staying right across the street you can just walk right onto the beach.
