I had a great on last Christmas. In Formosa Gardens, across Hwy 192 from Animal Kingdom, about two miles down the road on the right after you cross Hwy 192. Great house - BIG rectangular shaped pool (w/pool cover to keep it warm if need be, and owner will turn up the heat if it is too coll for you also), back of house is all glass windows looking out to pool and just past the pool the hosue is on a large lake w/a fountain in the middle. Large family rm w/50 inch high def. TV, master bedrm on main floor w/king bed, huge bathrm w/jacuzzi tub (rm looks out onto backyard pool and lake), dining rm, nice kitchen (looks onto lake over breakfast room); upstairs are 3 bedrooms decent size, one queen, two each w/two twin beds. Nice decor. Huge wrap around tan leather couches in main family liveing area. TV in master brm and queen bedrm upstairs. One bath upstairs. Extra half bath on main floor.
Owner is British, very nice, very responsive. We had no problems at all w/the hosue - he has a caretaker who lives 5 min from the house. ANd it is very well priced.
I HIGHLY recommend this house and owner. If you call Bryan K., tell him that Eileen, who stayed in the house last Christmas, sent you. House is called La Pearl Du Lac.

yildy, do you need any help in figuring out where the rental communities are? I found that difficult the first time we rented. IF so, I can give you a website that has a good map with all of the communities.

http://www.orlandovillas.com/Map.aspx

click on the community names under the map for a description of the communities and what they offer.

BTW, the forum offered by this group is VERY good for asking questions on different communities - or just reading thru other's postings.

http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/

and here is that forum's section on rental communities:

http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/forum_43.asp

and:

This should help you. I love that forum, they've helped me plan my trips, although I have not rented from any of the owners on that forum...

We rented a 7 bedroom house in Emerald Island over Christmas. The house was beautiful and the development was excellent. A club house, pool, playground, everything you need.

EI is about 10 minutes from the Animal Kingdom and then on to other Disney areas. We would definitely go back there. We used villadirect.com to rent.

EI is the development just before Formosa Gardens.

A little disappointed in the fact that they did not turn on our pool heat after we paid for it but they have promised a refund. Otherwise, a good experience.

yildy,

We're from Scotland & have rented villas at the western end of the 192 on three separate ocassions - twice in Rolling Hills & once in Formosa Gardens. I would certainly recommend both of these sub-divisions as good locations to base yourself in & would also recommend the actual homes we stayed in.
Here are links to their respective websites;

Rolling Hills (we stayed in this house twice)

Formosa Gardens

http://www.vr360floridavillas.co.uk/...ts.asp?id=159#

Rental prices in these particular sub-divisions seem to be among the most expensive in the area but there are plenty of others if these don't suit your budget. I can also provide the websites of several rental agencies if you would like them.
