WE ARE BOOKED FOR A 4 NIGHT STAY IN THE ALADDIN HOTEL ON THE STRIP IS THIS A GOOD CHOICE? OR WOULD WE BE BETTER TO STAY AWAY FROM THE STRIP AND VISIT IT FROM TIME TO TIME .OUR KIDS ARE 9 & 13 WE HAVE NO INTEREST IN GAMBLING BUT WOULD LIKE TO SEE VEGAS,THE HOOVER DAM AND TAKE A HELLICOPTER FLIGHT TO THE GRAND CANYON.

If you have no interest in gambling why are you even staying in Vegas???? 4 nights is a long time to "sight see"...take your kids to Disneyland after you see all the above after 1 night.

I just responded to a similar post. See http://fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=1&tid=34391066&numresponses=15& start=0

The short answer is you can keep busy with kids for a few days. I recommend you stay on the strip. see my post about things to do with kids.

We stayed at the MGM Grand with our two girls, early teens. Had a good time and it was close to the strip within walking distance. Restaurants within the hotel and felt very safe.

I love to go to Vegas, but I really hate to see children there. I go to Vegas to drink, see t*ts and a** and do other hedonistic things. That's the point of Vegas is, and I don't like being proscribed by children.

My kids didn't like Vegas-said it felt yucky. Even places like circus circus are training grounds for gambling. I won't expose my kids to that atmosphere again.

My kids were about that age when we went back to Vegas. We stayed at Excalibur. My husband and I just played a few slots when we had the chance. There were a LOT of things we and the kids were able to do that were free and enjoyable. Go on a Las Vegas website, check it out, and then you decide. Don't take everything said in here too seriously!

My husband and I took my kids (3 and 7) to Vegas a couple of years ago. [It was that or visit my folks in Oklahoma.] We stayed on the strip as that is where the action is. Be sure to stop in one of the magic shops. If you buy a trick, they will take you in the back room to show you how it's done. We did not enjoy the Hoover Dam but loved Red Rock Canyon. The Grand Canyon deserves more than a helicopter ride. I'd book tickets for the Cirque du Soleil in advance. Not to be missed!

KM, Which show did you go to, Mystere or O and did you bring the kids to the show? I was considering Mystere for my six year old, but I'm not sure if she is old enough to enjoy it.

We went to Mystere because we couldn't get tickets for O. Both my kids were pretty young and I was concerned about whether they could sit through it without freaking out. In fact, they both loved it.
