Vegas, San Diego and LA

Hi Everyone,

My wife and myself are in 27-30 range age and we live in Vancouver, Canada. We are planning to go to Vegas, San Diego and LA from March 25th to April 3rd 2016. I have been to all these places couple of time, but first time for my wife.

My plan is as follows and I appreciate any suggestions:
fly to vegas from vancouver and stay until Monday March 28th in there. My plan was to book in trump hotel which is not couple of minutes away from the strip and has shuttle to strip we dont wanna walk. Plan was to leave vegas on Monday and drive to San diego and stay at hampton inn san diego-kearny mesa which is decent and couple of minutes drive to downtown. stay in san Diego 2 nights and leave Wednesday and drive to LA. do not know where to stay in LA yet. we would stay until Sunday and fly back to Vancouver from LA on Sunday.

Questions:
- not planning to rent a car while in Vegas. good idea? I do plan to rent one when we leaving to san diego though and keep it and return in LAX when flying out
- any suggested must do in any above cities? we like beach, swimming, entertainement parks and shows and etc just to name few.
- where to stay in LA/Irvine that is decent with nice neighborhood which is central to attractions?

any other suggestion and comments are welcome

I don't think you can swim in the Pacific at that time but do check with any hotel in LV - I think the pools may be open by then.

Can't help with LA hotels - I avoid it if possible.

Do you have a good deal flying from Vancouver to Las Vegas?
Allegiant flies from Bellingham WA to Las Vegas (their hub).
"The Deuce" (a double decker bus) runs up "The Strip" which would save a lot of walking.
Do your swimming in the pool in Las Vegas.
You might not even need a rental car if you fly to San Diego and take an Amtrak Surfliner train from San Diego to Los Angeles.

Yes, I have coupon for flight from Vancouver, that is covered. I would like to go explore san diego and LA, so we have to get a car; it is just easier. I dont have have to be in LA, I can even be at languna beach area as well.

any suggestion on places/shows in these above locations? also where should I stay in orange county/LA?

Kearney Mesa is about a good 20 to 30 minute drive to downtown and the beach areas. I would see if you could find an inexpensive hotel in Coronado. Especially since you only have two days in SD. Coronado is an island and has a beautiful beach, San Diego Bay, the old historic Hotel Del Coronado, etc. Coronado is connected to downtown by a bridge and takes about 5 min by car. You're also close by freeway to Balboa Park and the SD Zoo. And because the bridge is an extension of the major freeway you can be in LA Jolla or other beach communities in abput 20 to 25 minutes by car.

My dad used to live out past Kearney Mesa. It's like being on the outskirts of a city. However, if the price is great and budget is a factor, it's not a terrible idea (15 minutes to the zoo).

That's true sf. It's not a bad area, just off the beaten track a bit. I'd check with the hotel and if they are near a freeway and have rental car they can probably get to most tourist areas pretty easily.
