vegas
I'm planning a "girls" long week-end for a 50th b'day to vegas. With so many discount websites (expedia, travelocity, cheaptickets, etc.), what's the best site for booking and deals??

There is no one best site. Are you booking airfare, hotels or both? You can sometimes find good packages that combine the two for cheaper than you could get them separately, but not always. I've only once in all my searching found a site like travelocity to have cheaper airfare than the airline's site directly - I use them for searching, then book through the airline. I also have not personally found any site that could offer me a vegas hotel for less than the hotel directly (except priceline/hotwire, which means bidding somewhat blindly).
So, it depends how much you value your money vs. your time. If you really want the best deal, search every site you can find to see what packages come up, and what airfare prices, and what hotel prices. It will be time-consuming, but you'll be fairly sure you're not paying too much. If your time is more valuable than that, check a site or two to get a feel for the market for your dates, then book wherever you're comfortable for what you consider a reasonable price, then don't look back. Neither is a bad option - choose what suits you best.

Chepovegas.com has some good usually updated info. I start here first..
check out a map of teh Vegas area...figure out what I want to do and which hotel looks best to me and then compare prices with regular airlines and regular hotel sites, site 59 and tripadvisor and then make my decisions.

It can depend on when you're going, and how many. Some sites have discounted rooms, but they're non-refundable and non-changeable....you pay even if you don't stay. Not a good idea if the trip is a long time from now or for a big group, someone always needs to drop out or change plans.
If you're in a city (or near one) served by Southwest, their prices won't come up when going to expedia etc. Check with southwestvacations directly.

We just returned from Vegas. Flew Airtran and stayed at the Luxor. We got airline tickets right through their website and called 800 # for Luxor and made own reservations.
Other family members bought packages to same hotel from Expedia and ended up paying several hundred dollars more.
