I'll be spending Valentine's Day weekend in NYC with my husband of 8 yrs. Looking for some tips on the best way to spend Valentine's Day. Looking for romance without the fancy restaurant. NYC is not new to us, so I guess I'm just looking for some new ideas for the special day.

You're smart to avoid the restaurant trap. It's perhaps the worst night of the year to try to get a decent meal in a restaurant. This year it happens to coincide with the Chinese New Year so one idea is to do Chinese. There are also plenty of smaller restaurants that aren't doing a special menu and that's a better idea imo. Since it falls on a Sunday, a nice brunch is another idea. Here are some discount ideas. http://www.goldstar.com/events/browse/10112/valentines2010
Not sure where you're staying but some hotels have special packages - with free champagne, couples day at the spa or similar.
Agree it's a bad night to eat out at one of the "romantic special" places. You might want to have an early dinner at a casuale place and then go to someplace for a drink and music later.
Whatever you do stay away from the chocolate shops that day.
