Vacation Rentals in Manhattan

Hi,

We are looking for Vacation Rentals (Studios/ Apartments) for our 5 day stay in end of April in Manhattan.

This is our first trip to New York, we are traveling with 2 kids under 10. We want a safe neighborhood + want to be able to walk around to as many sights/ shops/ restaurants etc as possible.

We have been looking at quite a few places thru the net and we have narrowed down to 2 placesbr /> 1. one is on West 49th street between 9th & 10th Ave.
2. one is on East 44th near 2nd Ave (UN)

Now what we are wondering is whether its good to stay in apartment 1 or 2.

Any recommendations ?

Do a search on here for nyc rentals - most will tell you that most such rentals are either illegal (actually violate the law, or violate the lease/condo/coop documents) or an outright scam. VRBO is great other places, NYC, maybe not so great.

Ignore levelheadedwoman's recommendation. She doesn't know what she is talking about

Look at Radio City Apartments, Affinia Group

Private apartment rentals are mostly illegal in NYC. There are also loads of scams. You want an apartment/hotel where you can read reviews and be certain of what you're getting. Affinia.com have about 7 of them. The Eastgate Tower is the least expensive and has a special on their own website under sales for the 2 bedroom 2 bath suite thru June, but it must be booked by the end of this month. http://affinia.com/Special.aspx?name...oom-Suite-Deal
beaconhotel.com and milburnhotel.com are some other options.

Beware of any company that asks you for a large deposit up front. You could lose your money, et to the address and find out you have no place to stay.

Agree that almost all such rentals are illegal and a fair number are scams. If you really want to pursue this you need to do several things:

Get the exact address and look at it on google maps to see that it exists and is an apartment house
Get detailed references from previous visitor you can contact
Get a 24 hour land line from the renter - in case there are any issues
Get detailed info (preferably from a local on this board) on the specifics of the building (some are 5 story walk-ups with a not very secure locked door and nothing else)
e
IMHO neithr of those areas is great for kids - I would want to stay near Central Park - not in an extremely busy business district.

If you provide details on the address and the web site someone here can look at it and try to provide more info.

But really, a suite hotel is a much better choice.
