Vacation for 2 in the Charlevoix area

I am looking for suggestions for places to stay & eat in the Charlevoix area. We usually stay in the TC area, but are w/o children this time & want the laid back style of Charlevoix. Hubby is a meat & potatoes w/o the fluff kind of guy & we love a good mom & pop type of breakfast house. Any other suggestions would be great; beachfront?, shopping?, golf?,etc. Thanks for any help

Juilleret's is a popular restaurant. In the village of Ellsworth, not far away is Tapawingo, which is often rated the best restaurant in the state. I haven't eaten there, but I've eaten at the Rowe Inn, also in Ellsworth and had one of the best meals of my life. Neither are what I'd call mom and pop type places though, they are on the pricier side.

As far as lodging, I've talked to people who stayed at the Pointes North Inn there, but unlike the PNI in TC, they are not on the water. I think the Weathervane was designed by the guy who built the hobbit houses in Charlevoix, and looks fine and has a nice location.

You won't find many waterfront hotels there like you will here in TC, but if you are going to be out and about most of the time, maybe that really isn't such a big factor?

.

Stafford's Weathervane Restaurant is my favorite place to eat in Charlevoix. Upscale casual, it is right on the Pine River and next to the bridge. The food is good and every half hour the bridge goes up and boats move between Lake Michigan and Round Lake.

lina,
a mom and pop restaurant? try the one on antrim and state streets. can't remember the name of it though. you'll find that a lot of the friendly locals eat there. like the mayor and chief of police. it is right across from the court house. and prices are good too.

leave the car there and just walk a block past the local movie house and then spend the day shopping down town. and plenty of places on Main street to eat too

golf? there are two courses. one is where the state tournament takes place called the Belvedere golf course, a privately owned course. then you have one across the bridge that is city owned.

beach front ,,hahaha,,, the whole town is on a beach front basically. three lakes, lake michigan, round lake right in the middle of town and then lake Charlevoix.

a big tip though, just park the car and walk. you practically can walk to any place you want. main street is always like rush hour and when the bridge goes up for the boats you go no where. so just use your feet and enjoy yourselves there. i guarantee you will. it isn't called Charlevoix the Beautiful for bragging rights only.

and the builder of the hobbit houses and weathervane inn was Earl Young.

where else to go? go ahead and take the boat across lake michigan to the Beaver Island. believe it or not, a couple of local boys walked over the ice on lake michigan in winter to Beaver Island. you can your car on the boat also to drive around the island.

and fifty miles north you have mackinac Island where cars are banned. that might be an interesting trip for a days outing also.

could send all day here telling you things to do or go in Charlevoix. i know you will never be bored though. pack a lunch and have a picnic in the park downtown or just buy a pizza at the pizza parlor there and walk across the street to the park and eat it there.

btw if you go to the Belvedere golf course, you'd be next door to my niece, practically. so have fun.

We stayed at the Inn at Grey Gables for a night last year. It was nice, convenient and there is a restaurant next door with the same name, but not run by the Inn. We didn't eat there, but it's supposed to be very good.
We ate at Jullierets, that is a mom & pop type breakfast place. We also ate at the Weathervane and had a table by the window and watched the boats go by, that was nice!
