I'll be taking my 24 year old son to the US Open this summer and I'm looking for input as to whether it makes sense to stay in Queens. We'll be staying in Manhattan for 3 days prior to going to the tournament and I was thinking about then moving to Queens to get closer to the tennis and to get some flavor for that area. We'll be going during the 1st week of the tennis and probably attending 2 or 3 days. I'm interested in cutting down on our commute time but wasn't sure if it was worth it. t'd love any input.

It's a very easy subway ride from mid-Manhattan to the Open. So, I recommend not moving to Queens.

In many ways, the first week at the Open is more interesting and fun, as you get the chance to really walk around the facility and catch a wide variety of matches.

Agree with both of the above posters - we've done it twice and commuted by subway from Manhattan both times.

I'll add my voice to the - stay in Manhattan opinion.

The 7 train with stops at 34th St-Hudson Yards (11th Av), 42nd St-Times Square, 42nd St-5th Av, and $2nd St-Grand Central is the most direct and convenient way to get to the Mets-Willets Point Station. From there it is a short walk down a ramp to the tennis stadium area.

The Long Island Railroad (NY Penn Station) also has a train to Willets Point (Port Washington line) but that doesn't operate as often and costs more than the subway.

For a different part of NY, head to Flushing for the best Chinese food in the City. There is also other Asian cuisines. The Chinese food is mostly regional and nothing like Chinese-American food.

Try to avoid dim sum on the weekends, the better places are zoos as it a combination of Chinese families and those who just enjoy dim sum.

+1 for staying in Manhattan and taking the 7 train to the Tennis Center.

An added benefit is that the train becomes sort of a party on wheels, with many conversations happening at the same time, a big difference from the normal disdain that New Yorkers have for each other on the subway.

That is truly a dopey comment. People do not care what another does unless it is extreme situation. People just want to get where they are going. Period.

There is Mary Poppins revival coming, so I guess then you will say NY'ers are all happy and fly around with umbrellas.
