US Beach Warm In January

Looking for a quality hotel on a nice beach in South Florida or California. I want to get to the beach from my hotel room without crossing highways or walking very far. When I get to the beach, I would like temps in the eighties and be able to relax, read, and enjoy. Water temp not important. Anyone know of such a place?

I don't think such a place exists. Maybe you'd get lucky in South Beach, but I wouldn't count on 80s.

Closest you can come in CA is the San Diego area, but even that isn't what you are seeking.

In addition to South Beach, Naples, Marco Island, Key West and Islamorada in Florida all suggest themselves (I have had 80's in January in each of them) but they also can have chilly winds and brief spells in the 30's. Caribbean, maybe Barbados, is best.

South Beach for sure. Look for a hotel on Collins Ave, they are right on the sand, no need to cross a street. I like the Raleigh, but I think the Gansevoort and the new W are very nice as well.

Well, the record highs in Miami are in the low 80s in January, the average high is only 73 according to Intellicast. That's not beach weather to me, but it may be to the OP.

Miami is the closest you'll get to what you're asking for, and good news: this winter will be warmer than usual in Florida. Everyone is right, a cold front moving through could ruin it, but if I were you I would bet on South Beach. Good luck!

If there was a warm place in the US in January I hope I would have found it by now! South Beach/So. Florida can be very chilly in January, but it's the wind that can make it feel worse. You can take you chances, but don't be disappointed if it's a lot cooler than you expected.

The Pacific Ocean is very chilly in January, not close to what you want at all. But it's pretty in January.

St. John, possibly....US Virgin Islands. 80's guaranteed, and beaches, are hard to come by in continental US in January.

I see tourists suntanning in bikinis every year in Dec & Jan on Orange County CA beaches , but that is when we have mid to high 70s temps. It feels warmer lying on the sand than just walking, so they are not too crazy, and some college girls work on tans while studying for Finals on the beach in Dec., and beach bums sit and bake (tan) too. Sometimes we luck out and get a day or two of sunny, low 80s. It seems it is often beautiful at Christmas (I like to go down to the beach and watch the surfers try out their new boards). But..it could also be gray and/or rainy. Water temp on Southern Calif will be very cold. If you want warm breezes, reliable 80s keep on going to Hawaii!

I lived in Long Beach for a period right out of college. (UMass) I remember going to the beach in December, BUT...I was a transplant from MA, and it was as warm then in Long Beach as it ever got in the Berkshires in July, so I was OK. Even I, though, thought the water was pretty da*ned cold!!

cd, our local paper and news channels have been saying for months that because we are in an El Nino pattern, we enjoyed a mild hurricane season, but will have a wetter-than-average winter with high chance of tornadoes and flooding. However, with that comes a decreased chance of freezing temps, and they predict slightly higher-than-average daily temps, too. I am not a meteorologist, but that''s what I've been hearing. (Sorry, I could not find a simple synopsis of that on the Internet...)

I just came back from staying in a friend's condo in Marco Island. There's a Hilton Hotel right on the beach that has very nice facilities, good restaurant(s), beautiful spa/pool area. I know less about the weather than posters above, but have been to Marco in January and in the past it was at least in the 70s at that time of year. No guarantees.

For Christmas/New Years I have been to both Clearwater Beach, near Tampa, and Green Turtle Cay, Abacos, Bahamas. Clearwater's water temperature was about 62 F and Green Turtle's was about 65 F. That's too cold for me.
