US Airways reduces miles needed for award tickets

I received this email from US Air. Looks like a significant reduction in the amount of miles neede for award tickets.

Coach and/or First Class discounted awards are being offered for travel originating and ticketed October 3, 2001 through October 27, 2001 and with return travel valid through October 31, 2001.

- 15,000 miles (USZ915) - Coach Class within the continental U.S. and Canada

- 30,000 miles (USD930) - First Class within the continental U.S. and Canada

- 20,000 miles (USZ910) - Coach Class between the continental U.S. or Canada and Mexico or the Caribbean

- 40,000 miles (USD910) - First Class on a 2-cabin aircraft or Envoy Class on a 3-cabin aircraft between the continental U.S. or Canada and Mexico or the Caribbean

- 35,000 miles (USZ935) - Economy Class between North America and Europe

FLIGHTS FROM REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT TO NEW YORK, BOSTON AND PITTSBURGH RESUME

US Airways will resume operations at Washington's Reagan National Airport with service to New York, Boston and Pittsburgh. We look forward to building on this service pattern as soon as possible.

US Airways will resume operations at Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport on Thursday at 7 a.m. The first flight will be US Airways Shuttle 6850 to New York's LaGuardia Airport.

Beginning Thursday, October 4, the US Airways Shuttle plans to operate four round trips daily between Reagan National and New York's LaGuardia Airport and four round trips daily between Reagan National and Boston's Logan Airport using its new Airbus A-320 family aircraft.

The service pattern between Washington and both New York and Boston is expected to increase to eight round trips daily on Monday, October 8, when US Airways also will begin operating between Reagan National and its Pittsburgh hub.

FLIGHT SCHEDULE UPDATE:

US Airways schedules have been updated for travel through November 3, 2001. The schedule updates for travel beyond November 3 will be completed by October 14, 2001. For the latest information on US Airways, schedules or to confirm status of your booking, please contact:

- Local US Airways International Reservations in Europe

Interesting. I just called Delta and asked if it was still 30,000 miles round trip to Hawaii and the agent said yes. Maybe only special categories changed?

Perhaps so. USAirways doesn't fly to Hawaii so maybe Delta decided not to "discount" that route.
