Upcoming Trip to NYC
My teenage daughter and I are fine tuning our plans for an upcoming trip to NYC-any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are staying in Midtown East this time, and will only be in the city for three full days, plus the evening we arrive IF LGA arrival is timely (we "should" arrive at 5:25). We have theatre tickets Sat at 8pm, and ballet tickets Sun at 5pm. The only other "musts" are a quick stop by Strawberry Fields the evening/nite we arrive (it will be the anniversary of his death), The Met, Top of The Rock, and WTC site. We are traveling without "The Boys" so we are planning to walk 5th and see the store windows plus shop. So, how to plan the days, plus where to eat (The brunch at Eleven Madison has been moved to the top of our list, along with Max Brenner thanks to a post here), and where to find the finds on a 16yo's budget!!!
TIA!!
TIA!!

I know I'm going to get slammed for this but for a 16yr old, Conway is a great place for jeans, tops, accessories that won't cost a bundle and your cash goes alot further. There are several in the 34th St area, like Broadway and 35th St. Also H&M on 34th and 6th, 34th and 7th and there is also one on 5th and 52nd.
I would suggest getting a Zagat guide so you have a handy where to eat no matter where you are in the city.
Oh and Max Brenner's Chocolate shop is a must!! I was there last week and I think I gained a pound just walking in a LOOKING at all that chocolate, divine.
Have a great trip.

here's a place my daughter and I like to go to when shopping in the Soho area:

http://www.themarketnyc.com/flashmain.html-
it's open on Sat and Sundays. usually cute jewelry, bags, t shirts, etc.
If you go to Union Sq area (to the Chocolate place/Max Brenner) you mention, there is a Filene's Basement there if you want to cruise through it in Union Sq - even if you just go to the top for the view of Union Sq on a nice day and a quick run thru the store. '' - There's also a clothing store there called Forever 21, you may even have them where you live - it's really inexpensive clothes (my daughter recently got 2 dresses there for $ 12 each - so nothing lasting or finely made, but great for teens who often switch their style with the wind.
The other great cafe/chocolate (the brownies!) coffee place we went to was Tisserie in Union Sq which was delightful.
We had a great brunch a few wknds ago at Eleven Madison - it is pricey, you can look on their menu on line and make sure there are things there your teen would enjoy - another place I like, which is nothing like Eleven Madison - not that fancy, sit down type brunch - but for breakfast is Le Pain Quotidien - and there are several in the city if you are ever near any - you can see the locations on their web page and what it looks like to see if it would appeal to you and your daughter.
Another link where you can 'investigate' lots of shopping options is this one:

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like we are on the right track. We have shopped at Century 21, Filene's, and H&M before, so we are familiar with them, and we will check out Conway. Now howabout the boutiquey stores in SoHo, NoLita etc? Any must go tos? (like Girlprops)

If you head down Broadway south of 14th St. you will find lots of trendy shops your daughter will like, it's also NYU area so she should find lots of shops that cater to the younger crowd. From Houston St and down the shops are a bit more upscale.

I have to be honest, but my 17 y.o. daughter would not step foot in Conway, although she has found some phenominal deals at Loehman's (her favorite discount store over Daffy's, Filene's, TJ Maxx and Century 21). ALso for inexpensive but trendy clothes, H&M (many locations). My daughter loves Urban Outfitter, but it's not as 'budget' as H&M.
