University of Florida, Gainesville Breakfast Spot

We will be visiting our grandson, staying overnight at a Hilton Garden Inn, but the hotel doesn't have any breakfast service. Right after breakfast with our GS, we will be heading east toward Fleming Island (JAX).

His dormitory is located on Museum Road, and I've done quite a few searches, but can't locate a breakfast restaurant close to the dorm. We will be picking up I-75 East right after we eat. I believe there is a Cracker Barrel off I-75 just as we "exit" the campus.

Any suggestions? This is our first visit to U of F so we are in unfamiliar territory.

THE breakfast spot in Gainesville is the Flying Biscuit. Be prepared to wait though.

Forget The Flying Biscuit. Go to the Metro Diner on SW 34th Street just north of Archer Road. Very close to campus, and any amount of time is worth waiting.

Both Metro Diner and Flying Biscuit are good; I have been to both in the last few months. Metro Diner though is a clear winner if you want close to the dorm and to 75.

Hello!

I'm back on Fodors; janisj we are back from our visit. Long, long drive. However, we will be back in Gainesville (UF) in late January 2017. These suggestions are just what we were looking for in October, but our GS will be at UF for a few years. Thanks to everyone.

I want to correct information about the Hilton Garden Inn, Gainesville. Apparently when I booked the room, there was a misunderstanding about breakfast. The hotel does serve breakfast - you have to pay for it separately, it's not included in the room rate.

This location also has a small bar just off the main lounge (music was playing the nights through the sound system). The bar closed at 10:00 p.m.
