I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you wondering how many days to devote to each park, or are you asking how and where to buy the tickets?
The first is an easier question to answer. If you are only in Orlando for 5 days and those include the travel days, you should spend 3 or 4 days (depending on when you arrive and leave) and 1 or 2 at Universal. If you are Harry Potter fans, you must purchase the most expensive one-day ticket to see all the attractions, which are split between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, and you must have the park-hopper option regardless. Two days would give you more time since these are the most popular attractions at both parks. Then pick 2 or at most three parks to visit at WDW. The easiest parks to do in a single day are Animal Kingdom and Disney Hollywood Studios.

dallen, In case you didn't know, Disney has 4 parks and Universal has 2 parks so if you are there for 5 days you will not be able to "visit" all of both places. First thing you must do is decide which parks you want to visit then figure out the number of days for each park. Ticket prices for multiple days are cheaper than buying single day tickets. Will be glad to help if you have more specific questions.

Universal's two parks are very different. One is more for smaller children, and one has the roller coasters. When we went we weren't aware of the differences and chose the wrong park. After being there about 20 minutes, we went to customer service and explained our error. They kindly gave us passes for the other park, with the caveat that they would expire in 15 minutes if we didn't enter by then (to prevent us from taking advantage and visiting both).

This is not necessarily true. Both parks have thrill rides and roller coasters. Both also have rides more suitable for smaller children. Don't think either one is geared more towards one age group or another. It is true that Islands of Adventure has a few more thrill rides.

We bought our tickets from Undercover Tourist. There has just been a price increase in the last two weeks unfortunately. We had four days at Disney World and two at Universal. You need to buy the two park hopper ticket for Universal if you are intending to take the Harry Potter train from one park to the other.
We did one Disney park each day, but Epcot didn't really appeal to our grandchildren. We would have loved to have gone back there on our own, and spent the day looking at the different pavilions. They did love Soarin' and Test Track though. Soarin' was my most favourite ride of the whole four days. We bought Park Hoppers for DisneyWorld but didn't actually use them. We just spend a day at each park.
