United vs. Air Canada

I am in the process of booking a flight from chicago to vancouver. I have the choice of flying either UA or AC, same price and times. I have no experience with Air Canada. Are there any good reasons to choose one over the other. Thanks

United owns Air Canada, if you book a UA flight, it may actually be that you will be flying on Air Canada. There really isn't a difference in "quality" of travel on either.

United does NOT own Air Canada. Many airlines codeshare their flights, but codesharing doesn't imply more than the presence of signed agreements. Susan is correct in one respect tho, that there really isn't any difference.

United may file for bankruptcy protection, Air Canada is profitable. I would choose the safer option, especially if your trip is a while away.

Confirming United does NOT own Air Canada.

Also on news today that United may file for bankruptcy by this fall...

If it's the same time and same cost, it's the same plane - some seats are sold by United, some sold by Air Canada. You won't notice any differences because there won't be any.

Even IF United Airlines files for bankruptcy protection (in order to restructure debt only) you will still be able to fly the airline. The government will not let them cease flying.

I'm still amazed that someone would matter-of-factly state that United owns another country's flag carrier. Amazing!

If you don't KNOW the answer, please don't opinionate.

JJ, I am sure Susan thought they owned the airlines because of code sharing.

I have flown on both United and Air Canada. I think you get a better meal/snack on Air Canada. I have found that you can starve to death on most American carriers (NorthWORST being the worst airline).

I have flown both AC and United. AC is the better choice- we have had movies on AC and not on United for the same flight destination.

There is only one way to fly to Vancouver and that would be with Air Canada-staff is friendlier, helpful and you will find that the price of the ticket is considerably cheaper with Air Canada(yes, even for the same codeshare flight!).United has some major issues these days..........

Air Canada definitely. I had bought 4 tickets to St. Lucia through them at $600 per ticket. Two months later they went on sale at $400 per ticket. I called Air Canada up and asked if there was any way to get the lower price and they said sure and in about 5 minutes my credit card had been credited the $800 difference with no questions, change fees or anything. I have never experienced a US airline doing the same!!!!!

Although I am not a fan of either airline, I would say Air Canada only because they are not going bankrupt any time soon .

I am sitting here this afternoon pondering what steps I may have to take if United does file. We have tickets to Oahu in Sept...
Kind folks can post reassuring remarks that all will be well, but noone knows for certain.

Eliminate the worry-book Air Canada.

I disagree. I'm no fan of United but my last flight on Air Canada was not very good. Awful food, nasty flight attendants who obviously didn't want to be on that flight, and an old 737-200 that should be retired. Again, not a United fan but at least United has retired old planes.

Doesn't anyone feel a moral obligation to support our own economy right now? If anyone here reads beyond the headlines United says that if and when they do file bankruptcy they will continue to fly. Also, the government will not tlet them fold. They are the #2 carrier in the U.S.

Wow, I agree but some people equate Chapter 11 with out-of-business. Small minds.
