Unique Accomodations
Hi gang,
I'm taking 8 people from my staff on a creative retreat for a few days in late April. I'd love to find a small hotel or B&B that is "different." It could be urban or rural -- just looking for a little inspiration, the theme of our time together is "In Search of the Remarkable." Let's limit the geography to east of the Mississippi and West/South of New York.
Thanks for you help!

I was intrigued by your question & have been trying to come up with suggestions. My first would be to repost your question with a better title like "unique B&B/hotel for creative meeting". I have no personal experience within your geographic parameters. I attended one of these in Niagra on the Lake near Buffalo, NY-can't remember the name of the place but it had an indoor pool & was well-priced because it was "out of season" in winter.
I recently read about The Inn at Easton (theinnateaston.com) in Maryland owned by a young couple who redid a historic building in "untraditional" style. They only have 7 rooms though (4 suites & 3 rooms) so it might not work unless people share. In the article I read (Renovation Style Magazine) the owners gave their decorator a book called "Hip Hotels" as a guide. Might be worth looking into.
While flying on Delta yesterday, I saw a property featured in their inflight magazine called the Barnsley resort in Adairsville, GA-an hour northwest of Atlanta (www.barnsleyresort.com) billed as "old world style meets suburbia". It's on 1300 acres with 70 suites.
Finally, if you know the Rogers & Hart song "There's a small hotel" (with a wishing well) it's the Stocton Inn in Stocton, NJ(?) near the Delaware River & New Hope Pa. The Inn itself is NOT terribly charming, at least now. I've always marvelled how the song made it sound sooo romantic-a good piece of creativity! Anyway, the area is lovely. Hope this helps.

I believe that the inn that the above poster refers to in Niagara-on-the-Lake is the Pillar and Post (as I think it's the only one with a pool). They actually have both indoor and outdoor pools, as late April will be too early to swim outside.
