Underwater camera DiCAPac and sports bar on Maui

Ok- two pretty specific questions for you tropical travel folks out there--

1) Have you heard of / used the DiCAPac underwater camera case thing? DH just bought one off ebay and we're wondering if anyone has any comments on the performance. He has a nice Cannon digi camera to protect.

(And per my insistance, we're also picking up some Fuji underwater disposable cameras)

2) Does anyone know of a great sports bar on Maui at which my DH could go to watch the Green Bay Packers football game on Sunday, 11/19? He HAS to watch the game, even whilst in paradise, and is wondering if there's a place on Maui that has island ambiance to make it at least a little different than a game at a bar back home.

Many thanks!

Lynne,
On our recent trip to HI, I really didn't want to have to worry about my new, expensive SLR digital camera being left in trunk of car should we want to stop spur of the moment at a beach. As a result, I left it home and only brought Fuji underwater cameras. They actually took decent pictures [I think you saw them on here].

Not sure I would trust my camera with an underwater case. Is it brand new and bought from a reputable seller on Ebay? Salt water will ruin a camera fast. A friend of mine dunked her digital camera in the ocean in St. John and in an instant, it was toast. {she stepped on a sea urchin!} So IF that case leaks...

Just IMHO...of course...

I feel the same way! He's in the film industry, so is kind of a snob about using disposables, but I'd rather just use the disposables in the water.

Unfortunately, when we honeymooned in Tahiti, we used Kodak underwater disposable cameras and our pictures were CRAP, total crap, compared to those taken by folks who went with Fuji, so I think he really wants to use his digital camera. Even though he knows nothing about this case!

Ah, men....

The Ale House in Kahului boasts 27 TVs but their website isn't working...perhaps a call once you're in Maui will be worthwhile.

P.S. Go Pack!! We'll be in Germany on 11/19 and my Packers-fan husband has resigned himself to miss the game...hope your husband has better luck.

Thank you so much, beanweb24!!! DH will be tickled.

Sorry your hubby can't watch the game. (But then again, maybe it's a nice break for us wives? Ah, but they do like to whine about missing the game, don't they? )

I don't know about that casing - $35 is pretty cheap for underwater housings. I would test it a lot before putting a camera in it.

Canon makes its own underwater casings for its digital cameras. Also, Ewa-marine seems to be a reputable name. They are both more expensive, but I would feel a lot more comfortable.

Also, the DiCAPac is only rated to up to 16 feet, the Ewa-Marines are rated at least 33 feet, and the Canons are rated at least 100 feet.

I'm picking up an Ewa-marine at Christmas for my G6. I figure I'd rather chance that camera than my digital SLR. If you have an older camera available, you might consider using it specifically for the underwater shots.

I've used the disposable underwater cams and wasn't happy with the quality either, so I understand his "need" for something better.
