Two days out of Seattle
Hello, We have just heard about the fire in the North Casscades NP and have to change our planes for early September. We now have two full days after we will finish exploring Seattle and before we head to the Olympic NP. What is you ideas regarding those two days? How about going to Bellingham? San Juan Islands? Fort Townsend? other places of interest? We are looking for beautiful beaches, nice and calm places to relax in after Seattle and befor Olympic park. We will have a car.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts,
Mali.

Whidbey Island. North from Seattle on I-5 to Hwy 526, aka the Boeing Freeway, then west toward Mukilteo. If interested, you can stop at the Future of Flight center - http://www.futureofflight.org/ - for a tour of the Boeing widebody plant, biggest building in the world.
At Mukilteo (cute waterfront town)- http://gardyloo.us/20140531_3Ha.jpg - you take the ferry to Whidbey Island. Spend the day on Whidbey - visit the very cute waterfront village of Langley, stop for lunch or at least pie at Whidbey Pies in Greenbank - http://whidbeypies.com/ - and marvelous Fort Casey State Park - lighthouse, coastal defense batteries, trails. Visit Coupeville, another lovely little waterfront town, then head to the north end of the island for a visit to Deception Pass State Park. Deception Pass is the narrow channel between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands; at tide change the water rushing threugh the gap is amazing. The views of the pass from the road bridges above, or from the beaches below, are terrific.
Book the last ferry of the day from Coupeville (actually adjacent to Fort Casey) to Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula for your overnight. PT has lots of lodging options from Victorian B&Bs to ordinary motels. The next day head west to Olympic NP.

Thank you all. We defently plan to go to Whidbay Island as you recommended . We have booked a tour to Boing at 10:30 AM so we will be at whidbay by noon.
Our question is if you recommend to spend one night at whidbay island or somewhere else because we think we will not have enough time to do all the nice thing in half day. Also we would love recommendations on nice hotels or B&B at Whidbay.

Thank you again. You have been very helpful. Do you think we will be able to find room without make advance reservations? We want to stay flexible if it is possible. We will be there at September 14th.

I would make reservations. Mid September is still a pretty busy time in this area, so I wouldn't chance it, especially since there really isn't a lot of lodging on the island.
I like the Captain Whidbey Inn. It is unique, and not high end, but we love it. You might also like the Coupeville Inn, which is right in downtown Coupeville.

The N.C. Highway is back open again, so go back to the idea of driving to Winthrop.
Most of the fires covered in the media are well to the east and south of N.C.N.P. so a projected trip in a week or so shouldn't be affected much at all by the major fires (unless one were planning to stay a night in Chelan or somewhere).

Hi we want to thank you all. We are now at Port Angles. We drove from Seattle to the North Cascades NP but not until Winthrop but just to the Washington pass. We had a wonderful day there. We stayed at the Buffalo Inn for the night and early in the morning went on to Whidbey island and enjoyed the deception pass and the park. We took the ferry to port townsand and came here. Tomorrow we will start our trip here.
