Twins game
We are arriving Fri. July 15th. We are renting a car, and staying at the Couryard by Marriott, by the airport. What is the best way for us to get to the stadium. Would it be best for us to take a cab, is there a shuttle from somwhere? My husband is not comfortable driving in new places. Also is this motel, the stadium, and the mall close for us driving too?

Hi frogdahl, I do not have a direct answer to your question but since I do not like to drive in unfamilar places at night either here is what I would do. I would call the hotel direct, not the general reservation 800# but the direct phone # of the Marriott where you will be staying.
They could advise you if there is some type of shuttle or not. If not then I would take a taxi. Ask the hotel about taxi availability getting back to the hotel after the game. Ask them all the questions that you have. Best wishes.

Frogdahl,
I work in downtown Minneapolis, about 6 blocks from the Metrodome. You could always take a taxi, but it might be a little difficult to find a taxi after the game to get back to the hotel. Another (and in my mind more convenient AND cheaper) option is to take the light rail light directly from the Mall of America to the stop right outside the Metrodome. If your hotel is by the MSP airport, there should be a free shuttle to the Mall (which is only a few miles from the airport). For more information on the light rail line (also known as the Hiawatha Line) - go to www.metrotransit.org. One caveat, you didn't say whether this was a day or evening game. I'm not sure how late the light rail runs (or for that matter how late the shuttle from your hotel runs).

What is the address of the motel you are staying at?
Is it?
1352 Northland Drive
Mendota Heights, MN 55120
* Phone: 1-651-452-2000
This one is about three miles east of the airport.
The Mall of America is about three miles west of the airport. So the Mall of America is about six miles from this motel.
There is another Courtyard
Courtyard Minneapolis Bloomington/Mall of America
7800 Bloomington Avenue South Bloomington, MN 55425
Phone: 1-952-876-0100
This one is only a few blocks from the Mall of America.
If the purpose of your trip is the Mall of America and Twins game, maybe you ought to change motels and stay at the one closer to the mall.
There are some other nice Marriot properties in the area.
Go to www.marriott.com
click on: near an airport
enter: msp
You don't have to enter dates to look at the properties.
The site will also give you driving directions to all the Marriott motels in the area.
Here is the directions to Courtyard in Mendota Heights from the airport:
* Hotel Direction: 3 mi E
* Driving Directions: Take 494 East to Pilot Knob Road. Head North to Northland Drive and turn right (East). Hotel will be on your right.
Here is the directions from the airport to the Bloomington/Mall of America Courtyard.
* Hotel Direction: 3 mi W
* Driving Directions: Take I-494 West to the 12th Ave. exit. Go South on 12th Ave. to American Blvd. Turn left on American Blvd. Follow to Bloomington Ave. South, turn left.

These are driving directions from Mall of America to the Metrodome. If you are staying in Mendota Heights, then take I-494W straight to I-35W North and follow the rest of the directions.
This is from:
Yahoo
Maps
Driving Directions
From 2261 Killebrew Dr. Bloomington, MN to 34 Kirby Puckett Pl., Minneapolis, MN
Parking is not the best at this stadium. You'll probably pay about $7-$10 for a parking garage or a lot in the area.
From I-35W look for signs that say Downtown exits or metrodome.
I haven't been to a Twins game for several years since moving to Hawaii. I don't know anything about the light rail that Marie mentioned. But it may be your best bet.
1. Start at 2261 KILLEBREW DR, BLOOMINGTON - go 0.2 mi
2. Take ramp onto MN-77 NORTH - go 3.2 mi
3. Take the MN-62 WEST exit - go 1.5 mi
4. Take the I-35W NORTH exit toward MINNEAPOLIS - go 4.8 mi
5. Take the MN-65 [Left] exit toward DOWNTOWN EXITS - go 0.7 mi
6. Take the 5TH AVE S [Left] exit - go 0.7 mi
7. Turn [Right] on 4TH ST S - go 0.2 mi
8. Turn [Right] on KIRBY PUCKETT PL - go 0.1 mi
9. Arrive at 34 KIRBY PUCKETT PL, MINNEAPOLIS, on the [Left]

There's one easy answer here: take the light rail. Hands down, it's the way to go.
There's no problem with time, unless the game goes about 22 innings.
If you're at the Mall Marriott, there's a station right there. If you're at the Mendota Courtyard, it's a short drive to the Fort Snelling Park N Ride or the Mall Park N Ride. The Mendota Courtyard is a bit out of the way (although very close to MSP) and there aren't many amenities right in the general vicinity.
The light rail drops you right at the Dome.
Driving isn't that bad, but you eliminate a lot of traffic, you simplify and get cheaper parking, and you walk less.
After living in several places that offer mass transit to stadium, it's clear that no new sports venue (or airport, for that matter) ought to be build without that option.

Wow, haven't gotten back here in some time. So much help. We are at the Mendota Heights Marriotts. I will check out the light rail. We did do that in Portland once, with the kids. But hubby wasn't thrilled with that. Just doens't like new things. But really appreciate all the directions help. This forum is a life saver. We are only in Minneapolis two days, then headed to Roseau and Wannaska to see family.

Also have a really far fetched question for anyone familiar with the Roseau, Greenbush area. We have made reservations at the Emerald Inn. We are having trouble finding rooms in Roseau, so settled for this. But have no idea if it is a decent place to stay for ten days or not? Anyone know of this motel. Or could recommend one close to Roseau, Wannaska area.

Can't help you there.
But depending on which way you go to get to Roseau, you might think about visiting Itasca State Park on the way.
Also fairly close to Mendota Heights is Minnehaha Falls Park. It's just across the river off Highway 55 near the Minneapolis VA Hospital. Very scenic!
