Twilight ~ Forks & LaPush Beach WA

I'm spending 3 nights in this area in June with my granddaughter. She is a Twilight fan.
Any ideas as to where to stay and what to do?
Thanks,
Pat

You might want to visit the Inn in Corbett Oregon.

Although Forks is mentioned in the movie, quite a bit was filmed in Oregon and California.

Although we stayed in Forks for 3 nights before Twilight, we liked Manitou Lodge. Not sure how old your GD is, but there's lots of space around the lodge to be outside. Hiking/walking on beaches, to waterfalls and in rain forest filled our time completely.

I noticed in the news that a restaurant and a lodging in Forks have just closed their doors. My guess is that your granddaughter is going to be disappointed with Forks.

My daughter and son in law made the trip and are going back soon. They loved it. I'm going to ask her for suggestions for you.

The beach in the movie was not in La Push but Cannon Beach Oregon. You should plan on at least 1 night either on the Oregon coast or along the Columbia River. Hood River Oregon seems to be the world capital for wind surfing.

We were there 2 years ago and at the time the Chamber of Commerce was full of souveniers and most weren't that expensive. Although most of the movie was filmed in Oregon there are many outside shots that you can see. The beaches in that are are very interesting and different in landscape than the northeast beaches that I am used to.

I've been once and we are actually headed back next week (I'm Connie's Daughter). The movie locations are different, but the original was filmed in Oregon while the rest all filmed in Vancouver. I never had any desire to see the movie sites, when the town itself is so clearly identical to her descriptions in the book. Stephenie Meyer visited Forks and did research as she was writing and describing the town. Our first visit was before the Twilight boom and we had a fantastic time, and I know others that have visited now that it's grown and it's even more exciting.

A museum is opening in September and I know you'll miss that since you'll be there in June, but that is the next "big thing" coming to Forks.

The trip to Forks is a bit of work- it's about 3 hours outside of Seattle but Gorgeous drives. Before you get to Forks, you'll drive through Sequim, Hoquium and then Port Angeles, all mentioned in the book, of course specifically Port Angeles. Stop here, go to the book store and take her to Bella Italia, where Edward and Bell have their first date. Bella Italia really exists and you sit down to order Coke (real coke, not diet! Just like Bella) and Mushroom Ravioli. It's $20, but you'll have to do it. It's a pivotal scene in the book! Sign the guestbook and see how people have come from all around the world including Japan and Australia to little old Forks. Tourism is huge there and they know it and cater to you.

Get out at the sign for Forks and La Push and take a pic!

Then you'll keep driving around Crescent Lake for an hour or so after the turn off to Forks and this Lake is just stunning. We stopped at Waterfalls and took tons of pics and just hung out by the Lake (and this was in January). I hope these picture links work! This is Crescent Lke

For things to see in Forks, especially based on the books, an entire day in La Push is really fantastic, even if she's "Team Edward". First Beach is easy to get to, but if you can hike it, the trip to 2nd Beach is REALLY worth it. It's remote, gorgeous and just a real treat. Go out to La Push, visit the local Quileute sites and school, see 3rd Beach, and then turn around and drive a bit back up the way to see a parking lot and signs for 2nd Beach. Park and hike. It's about a mile but you will not regret it. Then a fire on the beach at sunset with hotdogs. This is a hands down must do event, since Bella and Jacob did this multiple times in multiple books. It's over a campfire on First Beach that Bella finds out Edward might be a bit different and Jacob tells her the Quileute legends of Cold Ones. Fires on the beach are legal and everyone there is very used to you doing this. These are some of my favorite memories. You can buy firewood and food at the local Quilute store. http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/second-beach

Day 2 you tour the town (although she'll probably want to do this on the first day!)

First thing, more than anything else, go to Lapells flower shop and ask to talk to the owner and tell them you'd like a map and any info they can give you. You can go to the Forks museum to get this info, but the people at Lapells are especially handy and so chatty and helpful. They have secret sites to clue you in on as well. Start there, get a map, and drive to the Cullen House in town, Bella's House, The Police Station to get a picture with Charlie, the hospital to take a picture with either Dr Cullen or at least his parking spot, and you MUST take pics at the town sign. This seems silly but it's a huge thing in the books and the movie. Then go to the high school (And if you go during the week they'll let you tour the school and see the biology lab where Edward and Bella meet). Then off to the Forks museum to see Bella's truck. Go to the grocery store which is where the sporting goods store is and see where Bella worked. Sort of. Buy a red apple to take pictures with everywhere you go in outstretched hands.

All of these pictures and now you need to run through the forest to the meadow... or just hike through the Hoh Rainforest. Google the Hoh to see how beautiful it is. We didn't get to see it last time since the road was closed to downed trees, so we are very much looking forward to seeing this.

You can also do Twilight tours which are taking off there, and they usually start at the store, Dazzled By Twilight. You can do your own tours for free, but shop at the store for souveniers. Eat dinner at the dinner just like Charlie and Bella.

We stayed at Pacific Inn since they are old apartments converted now to a hotel, so we could put two couples in a two bedroom, one bath and kitchen kind of set up. It was perfect for us to cook and hang out in a living room and retire to our own rooms when we wanted.

Amazingly for such a small town, we are making the trek yet again since we missed some things the first time, and going with the same couple as before. We are from Texas and they are in Georgia and we are still willing to make the haul. This time we'll fit in the Hoh Rainforest, and more time at La Push and Port Angeles. We'll also drive out to MaryMere falls and hike, the Makah Indian reservation, and drive out to Cape Flattery which is about 15 miles out of town. It's pretty much the tip out into the ocean and is a must see.
Suggested Day Trip: head out highway 112 . Stop at Joyce General Store for refreshments. Travel to Neah Bay. Purchase your visitor's pass from a Makah outlet. Head out to Cape Flattery ~ take a picnic. Stop at the Makah museum. Support the local economy by stopping at a store in Neah Bay. Head back to Clallam Bay to eat at Breakwater overlooking Clallam Bay ~ boats, birds, eagles all in full view. If fime allows go to Salt Creek Beach too!

Everything in this town and 50 miles nearby is Twilight related and fan related, so soak it up! They love fans and your granddaughter will really love the experience. It's a seriously sweet gift to give her and she'll really appreciate it. The really nice part about this trip is that even if you aren't a fan, the scenery is so stunning that you'll enjoy it as well, and her enthusiasm will be quite infectious.

I hope I posted enough to fill up your days and let you know that this trip is completely worth it and the town is growing and not reducing in size. We are also all between 28-32 years old, and we enjoy the town experience so it's not just for teens!

Please also private message me if you want to see any pictures or more tips.

The View Point Inn in Corbett had a fire last year and I do not believe it has reopened yet. Not sure it will as it was uninsured.

Yes and amazingly the house in forks that Stephenie originally used as the concept for the Cullen House also burned. Obviously the two are unrelated but it's just weird that some big sites in the twilight world both from the book and from the movie have burned

As a resident of Forks and the spokesperson for the Stephenie Meyer Day Committee I can tell you a trip to Forks is magical! It is imperative though, that one understands that Forks is the novel, NOT the movie...you may come for Twilight, but you'll stay for Forks!
The attractions we have compliment the story as written by Stephenie Meyer. There is so much to see and do here the Chamber of Commerce or Leppell's Twilight Central would be happy to help plan your time! Dazzled By Twilight, as mentioned above, has closed as well as their restaurant The Lodge, but there are plenty of other retail sites who also have a wide variety of Twilight merchandise. We also have a variety of lodgings including The Forks Motel, Dew Drop Inn, Pacific Inn, and Olympic Suites as well as a number of bed and breakfasts. I hope you enjoy your trip and I know your Grand daughter will love it if she is a fan of the Twilight Saga.

This is the original house that Steph used, and the story of what happened. You can also see how the town simply picked the one in town since it is much easier for tours, but it's not the house Stephenie used to model after in the books. I understand and am aware that the town used the Miller Tree Inn but Stephenie did not use that in her design plans
