Tucson to Grand Canyon organized tour/short trip?

I am helping our adult exchange student find a tour that will take her and two friends to the GC from Tucson June 21, 22nd.. None of them want to drive. They will be attending a seminar and I have only been able to find agencies from Phoenix.

Any help will be appreciated.

I don't see anything from a quick google search. But there are shuttle services from Tucson to Phoenix, so they could use that to get to a pickup point for a tour. I did see one tour company that offers custom tours from Phoenix - they go to southern AZ or northern AZ so perhaps they might be willing to set up a custom tour to the Grand Canyon that includes pickup and dropoff in Tucson? I would think that would be pretty pricey though.

Why don't they want to drive? That's by far the cheapest, most flexible option.

They're from overseas and I think afraid to do so. I'll see if I can convince them.

If they'll be here as part of the exchange program prior to this trip, I would take them out and let them practice a bit. The roads from Tuscon to the Grand Canyon are easy enough to navigate, no scary dropoffs or anything of that nature. If they just have the one day they'd be best off leaving the evening before (if they can) to give themselves more time. That is kind of a long roundtrip drive for one day - doable but not ideal.

The only issue with that drive is the horrible highway between Tucson and Phoenix. That would be very intimidating to a novice driver.

I'd go for a guided tour.

Grand Canyon is best done as an overnight trip. It's too long for a one-day trip. I'd rely on a tour to find them accomodation there considering they want to go in 6 weeks.

I agree it's not a great daytrip and I *hate* I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix. There's a shuttle that runs from the UA and other places that's about $25 one way, if they can pick up a tour in Phx.

Thanks for all the info. They do have 1.5 days off on the weekends so more of the group has decided to rent a couple cars and make it an overnight. So.. that's solved. ( Before it was just a couple of the girls).

It's a long drive. Hope they enjoy it.
