Tucson: milestone Birthday Dinner, winter

Priorities: ambiance, comfort, view, decent food . Don't care about wine list. Budget not an issue
Friends suggesting Hacienda del Sol or Vivace.
What do you think? Other ideas? Could be near, not in Tucson.

Also, friend visiting who loves brunch. Is Hacienda fun for that?

Yes, Hacienda de Sol would be perfect. We' e celebrated big milestones there and they went out their way for us every time. Beautiful setting, views, wonderful food.
Their Sunday Brunch gets rave reviews but it a large buffet which we don't care for so never have gone to it.
Another time, for a more casual side of Hacienda de Sol, dine in their outdoor bar area, La Terraza.

If you look under the picture of mussels and melted butter, on the lower left, in the black frame around picture...there is a link to photo gallery.

Very nice ambiance, stunning views.

Marriott Starr Pass is nice but it is a large corporate owned resort. It caters to business meetings and charity functions.. We have been to several galas there and it's fine.. It isn't in the same category as Hacienda de Sol, a small historic property with exquisite dining.
Honestly, I have never known anyone who went there as individuals, not part of an event.

I went but don't disagree with the description.

Thanks all. I’m going to reserve at Hacienda del Sol
For my birthday ( but not on my Birthday which falls on Valentines Day, not great for going out.)

I think we’ll take my friend to the Arizona Inn for brunch.

Jubi, your birthday is during the huge International Gem Show so book your dinner reservation way in advance. Those world wide visitors take over the restaurants. I know from experience as our anniversary is a few days earlier. Tell Hacienda de Sol it's a very special occassion.

Thanks, HappyTrvlr. I was thinking the same re the gem show.
I see that open table only allows reservations three months out. Should I call the restaurant directly sooner than that?

We have usually gone to Tucson after the gem show and I’m kind of dreading it, actually.
But I’m happy we’ll be there three months.

I would call them. Also ask them about booking the Chef's Table which may interest you; the only view is of the kitchen though.

Actually, I just looked the chef’s table up. I don’t think it’s what I want for this occasion, but thanks for the suggestion. I’ll call tomorrow.
