Tucson -- Lodge on the Desert (or other suggestions)

Hi. My husband and I would like to spend less than $150 per night on a hotel in Tucson. We will be travelling the last weekend in April/First weekend in May and going to Seguro and other area sites. After reading these boards and doing my own research, I think I've setled on the Lodge on the Desert. Anyone have any specific comments about this hotel? Or, any other suggestions in that price range? We will be away from the hotel most of the time, but I suspect maybe we'd spend one late afternoon relaxing at the hotel, so I'd hope for a decent pool, etc. Thanks so much.

Oops, spelled it wrong. I was so intent on spelling Tucson correctly, that I made a different mistake. Saguro National Park: http://www.nps.gov/sagu/

We're also interested in the Arizona - Sonora Desert Museum and maybe Sabino Canyon.

THanks.

Wrong again -- so sorry -- Saguaro. It is east and west of Tucson, I believe.

We leave for Tucson on Saturday. Our first two nights will be at the Omni, which we got on Priceline for $100 per night ($230 total after taxes and service charge). However, I understand that hotel rates drop dramatically during late April/May so you should be able to get a good price at many of the resorts. If you like, I can report back on the Omni in about 10 days.

The Omni is a lovely hotel. Our room was large (two double beds) with a nice bathroom and patio facing the 9th hole of the golf course. The spa is wonderful. In addition to the room rate, you pay a $12 per room per night service charge. That provides free local calls, a newspaper and access to the Spa. The Omni is pretty far north, but it was easy to find and it is convenient to the west side sights. Don't miss the Desert Museum - we spent four hours there and were reluctant to leave but had to go to fit in the National Park West (Signal Hill is worth the drive on a somewhat uneven dirt road), the Mission and Nogales. A local couple we met at Sabino Canyon recommended La Roca restaurant in Nogales, which was excellent but hard to find. If you are planning to go to Sabino Canyon, call ahead to confirm it is open. They closed it last week due to concerns over mountain lions, but I doubt it will be closed for long. Have a great trip.

Delegator, I think kameha was yanking your chain--some of us get very annoyed at bad spelling!
I can't comment on hotels, but I do agree with your selctions of Saguaro nat'l Monument and the AZ-Sonora Desert Museum--they really are must-see's. If you have time, add the mission San Xavier del Bac, and if you like to browse/shop, Tubac. If you have still more time, consider driving south to the Huachuca Mountains and Bisbee via Patagonia and Sonoita. Have a great trip!

We stayed a Lodge on the Desert in June a few years ago. I thought it was a great place. The room was positively HUGE and very restful and private. The pool was nice, too. And it was something different, too... very memorable. The rates really do go down in the summer -- it think we paid in the $70 range. Another nice place in Tucson is Westward Look Resort. It was also unique and had a great pool -- maybe more than one. It also had a lively night club with a live band and a great view of the City. (The resort is on the edge of town.) We got a good rate on that one in June, too. I don't think the rates are as low in April and May, though.

No, I wasn't yanking anyone's chain. I was truly confused. I don't get freaked out by spelling errors as I make them all the time.
Enjoy Tucson.

Sorry, kameha, didn't mean to speak for you! I am an admitted spelling queen, and assumed you were the same...no harm intended.
