Trips from las vegas
Will be in las vegas area for 8 days mid feb. Plan to spent 4 in las vegas, and then was interested in traveling around a bit. I was wondering what the weather was like in Zion, and if it would be practical to drive there in feb. Also, does anyone know about the distance to death valley. or even to Joshua tree? Thanks

Death Valley is about a 3 hour drive northwest of Vegas. If it interests you, drop by the ghost town of Rhyolite a few miles outside of Death Valley near Beatty. Have a full tank of gas when you leave Vegas. The only gas we saw available was in Beatty & only one gas station (very pricy) inside Death Valley. It's a very beautiful, desolate, & peaceful place.

Karen-another vote for visiting both Death Valley and Rhyolite ghost town. The park is spectacular, although some roads may be closed due to snow in Feb. While the drive to Ubehebe crater(within the park) is long, it's definitely worth it. Scotty's Castle is in that same area. Mosiac Canyon is stunning, as are the sand dunes. Rhyolite will definitely get you thinking about what life was like in the gold-rush heyday.
Zion, if I remember correctly, is about 3-3-1/2 hrs from Vegas, and beautiful in it's own right. Lots of redish-clay colors, with very interesting rock formations. Totally different than DV.
Closer to Vegas, I'd suggest both Red Rock Canyon and/or the Valley of Fire State Park. Again, both are different from each other, but each stunning to see. Happy Travels
