Trip to West Virginia

Jump to last reply

I am planning a week-long trip to WV next summer. I plan to stay in two or three areas: the New River Gorge and Cannan Valley or Seneca Rocks. Listed below is everything I plan to do and see:
Cannan Valley/Seneca Rocks area:

Spruce Knob Tower
Smoke Hole Canyon
Hiking Seneca Rocks
Sightseeing (driving around) and hiking at Dolly Sods
Hiking Nelson Rocks
Seeing Blackwater Falls and the gorge overlook near the lodge at that state park and maybe some hiking.

Along the way to Cannan Valley from Fayetteville:
Beartown State Park
Cranberry Bogs
Highland Scenic Byway
The Falls of Hill Creek on the Highland Scenic Byway
Possibly a ride on the Cass Railroad and/or activities at Snowshoe and/or a night at Cass or Snowshoe

Along the way to WV:
Coopers Rock Overlook (I live in maryland and will be coming in on I-68, so this is along the way)

New River Gorge area:
New River Gorge (the bridge, some hiking, sandstone falls, and seeing the other major areas of the Gorge like Grandview)
Babcock State Park (see the Glade Creek Gristmill)
Hawks Nest State Park (maybe take the jetboat ride)

I guess I will shoot for Fayetteville as a base for the New River Gorge. What about Cannan Valley/Seneca Rocks, should I stay at Cannan Valley or Seneca Rocks? And for how long to do everything I want? Same for Fayetteville?
Thanks-
