If you were having a few days in Michigan, what other parts of USA would you visit if you had 2 weeks?
I am from Scotland so not sure on this would be next summer though.

Michigan is a big place (about 100,000 sq mi/253,000 kmē). From which part will you be starting? Are you traveling alone? With a partner? With children?

Also, what sorts of things interest you? Sightseeing in large cities? Small towns and rural areas? Museums? Attending an American baseball game? Camping and outdoor activities?

Do you want to stay close to Michigan and the Great Lakes region or are you looking to travel to either coast?

Will you have a car or relying on a train/flights? Finally, what's your budget?

If you provide some details, I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

Well, its hard to answer your question without knowing more about your likes and dislikes. It's like me asking you "Where in Scotland should I visit".

The USA is a big place with 48 contigious states spanning some 3,000 miles from cost to coast and about 1,600 miles from the northern borders to the southern tip of Texas. You can easily spend 2 weeks in a city like Chicago, New York or San Francisco and barely scratch the surface or you can spend your time driving through New England visiting several different states.

Which brings up a few questions for you:

1) Did you want to spend your time in one location such as a big city or were you thinging of making day trips from a base location or perhaps spending 3 or 4 days in several different locales?

2) If you want to travel between locations do you want to drive or fly?

3) Do you prefer visiting cities, staying at a costal resort area, the ruggarde mountains of the Pacific Northwest, the flat plains of the mid-west, the rural countryside of the east or perhaps the deserts of the southwest?

The more you can tell us about what your ideal trip would be the easier it will be to help you.

I would fly from Michigan back to the East Coast - visiting New York, Boston, and go up into New England states (Vermont is especially beautiful imo and/or somewhere on the coast of New Hampshire or Maine).

Then fly home from JFK.

If you are in Michigan in June, go to the Lilac Festival on Mackinac Island. It's a pleasant place anyway, but when the lilacs are in bloom, it's gorgeous. Some of them are 100 years old and reach the second story windows of the houses. Otherwise, you can have a carriage ride (no cars allowed on the island) and eat fudge.

The state of Illinois borders Michigan, and Chicago is fun to visit.

............or you could fly to Salt Lake City UT, Bozeman MT or Jackson WY and visit Yellowstone NP, The Teton NP and other areas in the Rocky Mountains, then fly home.

Disagree that asking where should I go in US is the same as where should I go in Scotland. It's really like asking where should I go in europe. Huge size, great cities, wonderful natural beauty - you really must tell us about you, your interests and most important - budget - before anybody can be much help.

You could easily spend 2 weeks touring Michigan. With no clues what you like to do, there is no better recomendation.

Why are you coming to Michigan in the first place? Are you visiting family or friends, or is it a business trip? I ask only because I'm wondering what part of the state you will start off in.

Off the top of my head I'd say maybe Chicago, or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, might be doable side trips.

Do you have a budget? Do you want to fly around the country? As other posters mentioned, the USA is huge. I would recommend the national parks out West, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon. Yosemite. NYC. San Francisco. I would not spend 2 weeks in Michigan or the midwest, other regions much better.

I spend a lot of time on the Europe board. In about 90% of cases there if someone asks where to go in Europe during a two week trip, they will be told to stick to one country. Using that same guideline, I suppose you should stay in Michigan.
