I spent the week leading up to the 4th of July on staying on Singer Island, which is right outside of Palm Beach. My family has been to many beaches in Florida, and I have to say that I was incredibly impressed with the clarity of the water on Singer Island and Palm Beach as well. We have visisted the Gulf side many times, and I have become used to beaches that have more green colored water.
Besides being a nice ocean side town, there is quite a bit to do and see. If you like to shop and eat good seafood, this is a good place for you. Worth Avenue has all of the designer stores, and CityPlace is a new outdoor shopping mall with many of the major retailers you would be used to seeing in American malls. It also seems to be a yachter and sailors paradise, as there are beautiful marinas and harbors everywhere.
We stayed in a Marriott Ocean Pointe time share on Singer Island, which I would recommend because they are right on the water, and have great ammentities if you are looking for a "condo like" atmosphere. Full kitchen, grills, multiple swimming pools. Definitely a place for famililes.
We spent some time wandering around in Palm beach as well, and I would definitely like to go back another time and stay at The Breakers, which is an amazing historic ocean front resort. We went there one evening after dinner,and it is by far the most grand resort I think I have been to.

We spent a little over four weeks in West Palm this past Feb. and were also surprised at the clarity of the water off Singer Island.
There is more than just shopping on Worth Ave. I hope you went into the little "Vias" (alleys) behind the shops. It's like a little Italian street. We loved the ones with the children's sculpture garden.
That is a nice long holiday! We actually didn't explore down but one or two little areas off of Worth Ave ... will add to my list for next time!
