Trip report, Fort Lauderdale
We are a married couple, 40's, who did a weekend in Fort Lauderdale.
Hotel: Sheraton, the one that looks like a ship. Great balcony view and pools, fantastic location. Thin walls.
Car: None. We didn't regret it. Took the water taxi, cabs and busses, and laughed at the people waiting for the valets to hustle down their cars.
Highly recommended: Water taxi. For $20, you get a tour of the intercoastal waterway, as well as commentary. You will learn a lot, and can get on and off anytime.
Recommended restaurants: Mangos, Cocoanuts, Oasis.
Recommended bars - Bahia Cabana, Oasis
Not recommended - Elbow Room, on corner of Seabreeze and Las Olas. A refuge for drunk 20-somethings.

I was looking up some information to help a friend for a trip to Fort Lauderdale (where I went for the first time last January) and doing a search, found your report. Even though this is from May, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write one up, particularly since no one said "thank you" (I'm always sad when I write up a trip report and wonder if no one read it). Unlike the opinions that seem to somehow prevail, I wanted to add that I agree with you... Fort Lauderdale *without* a car (if not too far from the beach, Las Olas and the A1A) can make for a perfectly pleasant few days.
Best wishes, Daniel

You were only here for a weekend and basically stayed in downtown Ft Lauderdale.
There's a shuttle from Las Olas to the beach.
However, should you want to go anywhere else on a longer stay you'd be severely limited without a car.
