Trip Report - 2009 Southwest Road Trip

For your reading and viewing pleasure:

Hello all -

I am still putting the finishing touches on a travel blog, which is an account of a recent trip to the Southwest USA. We flew into Vegas, rented a car and explored more than a dozen National Parks and Monuments in Utah and surrounding states. This was a trip of a lifetime and I am still amazed how easily everything fell into place.

The navigation on the site is a little clumsy so to make it more user-friendly I added links at the bottom of each page. When you click on one of these links it will bring you to the following day. (Otherwise, wordpress doesn't allow you to read this in chronological order)

Happy trails!

Just started reading your blog. Sounds like a great trip. We are thinking of something similar so I bookmarked it. I'll probably be back with questions. Thanks for posting it.

Loved the blog. We have travelled that way several times, complete with a night in the motel with the bison statue and the stop at Golden Corral (nice to know someone can be as tacky as we are). Hope you do get to go back and spend more time in each park and do a bit more hiking. Also, do hit Chaco when you don't have to deal with Yolanda. BTW the closest motels to Chaco we've found are in Bloomfield, NM.

Isabel, thank you for reading. I would be happy to answer questions.

Samsaf, more pictures will be posted soon. Thank you for your comments.

Emalloy, that's great advice about Chaco. I need to see that while I am still amongst the living.

Whoa, that was a whirlwind trip. Sounds like you saw a lot. I have been to most of the places you were at, but usually stay 3 or 4 days at each of them. If you do make it back to Arches, do see Landscape and Delicate Arch, they are terrific. It sounds to me as though Bryce was your Favorite. I haven't been to it yet, but hope to make it there withing the next couple of years. I spent the weekend in Capitol Reef area about 3 weeks ago. Hiked 31 miles in 2.5 days. That is a heck of a cliff to scale coming out of Balcony House isn't it.
