Trip Report - Kennebunkport, Maine
Missed last FFR&R to get married. Drove 1.5 hours to Kennebunkport to stay at the Captain Lord Mansion (www.captainlord.com). Checked in at 3pm, the woman in the office gave us a tour of the mansion, what a gorgeous place. We had a room on the 3rd floor next to the entrance to the cupola, where you could see the boats in the harbor. They had champagne on ice, roses and chocolate covered blueberries waiting for us. The room was huge, gas fireplace, jetted tub, very luxurious. The location was great, just a short walk to quaint shops and restaurants. We strolled over to Federal Jacks for an early dinner. The restaurant filled up fast at dinner time. The seafood was the best I've ever had. 2 lb. lobsters, chowder, mussels, calimari, just phenomenal! Stopped at Hurricane on the walk back for Rick's Mai Tai, hoooweee, strong! We were scheduled for the 9:45am breakfast seating at Captain Lord, and when we arrived, 5 minutes late, they were full. The 8:30am seating had 8 people that decided to sleep in, so they went to the 9:45am. They set a table in another room for us and a few minutes later another couple joined us. The food was just wonderful, but I think next time we'll just leave and get breakfast out. The portions were small. They let us check out an hour late, which was nice of them. If they take reservations a year in advance I'm booking now for our 1st Anniversary!

We didn't see even one mosquito! Though there were many a fly in the sand at Fortune's Rock Beach in Biddeford Pool. They left us alone for the most part. The fifty degree day yesterday was the warmest since last October, what a treat to sit on the beach!

If you do return next year, have breakfast at The Green Heron, within walking distance of the Captain Lord. And have a lobster roll at Allyson's, and listen to the piano player in the evening at the Kennebunport Inn.

Buzzyj - I certainly will - thanks for the recommendations! We only had one night, so next year we will be staying the 2-night minimum and have time to visit other restaurants. By the way, it doesn't hurt to call the 2-night minimum places to see if they happen to have 1 night available, if you only need one. I happened to luck out this time and boy, was it worth it!
