Trip Denver to Pagosa Springs
My wife & I are driving to Pagosa Springs from Denver Sunday, June 15. We are headed to a resort for a week and wanted to know suggestions for the best scenic route from Denver, side trips on the drive but not over nights. Are current plans are separate day trips to both Durango & Ouray during the week. Want more suggestions to do for someone based in Pagosa Springs. All suggestions are welcomed.

My suggestion--take highway 285 (Hampton Avenue)from Denver; then south of Villa Grove-take highway 17 to Alamosa then take highway 160 to Pagosa. Lots of great scenery along the way. On 285 the view of South Park as you crest Kenosha Pass and the view of the Collegiate Peaks as you leave South Park are two of my favorites in all of Colorado.
Possible side trips-the almost ghost town of St. Elmo and Mt Princeton Hot Springs (turn off highway 285 at Nathrop just south of Buena Vista) and Great Sand Dunes National Park just east of highway 17 at Mosca.
