Treasure Island show
Has anyone seen the "Sirens of Ti" show in front of Treasure Island? What did you think of it? How early should I line up for the 6pm show in order to get close enough to see anything?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Tasteless dialogue--the tone, if not quite the degree of explicitness, being what you would hear in a porn film. Insultingly stupid plot. Skimpy costumes (but can't be too much so because after all it's visible to any passerby), sexually explicit but not artful dancing between pirates and "sirens"--basically, what you'd see at a contemporary metropolitan area high school prom. Not at all entertaining or sexy in my opinion. Definitely not for children, very different, I am told, from the old pirates vs. British show, which I never saw. The "Sirens" are presented as urban streetwalkers. Sample and very representaltive dialogue--PIRATE CAPTAIN: Ahoy! Ahoy! SIRENS CAPTAIN: Hey, who you callin' a 'Ho?
If not at one of the hotel's preferred viewing areas for guests, or a patron of one of their restaurants or bars overlooking the battle area, to get anything approaching a good view you will need to get there an hour early, stand in a crush with virtually nowhere to sit or lean, (always with people who just want to get by on the sidewalk pushing and shoving to get through,)till it starts and throughout the performance (it lasts only 15 min.), and you still won't be able to see it very well. Also, it's pickpocket heaven.
The explosions and fires are pretty spectacular, and that's the only good thing I have to say about the whole experience. Afterwards, I was really sorry to have spent the time and physical discomfort on it. The lagoon, pirate village and ships are fun to see--all I'd recommend is coming by to look at them sometime far from performance time.
I think even the young and hip would find the Bellagio fountains (which are actually fairly wittily choreographed) to be a much better free show.

Thank you so much for the candid review. Just what I needed to know. I think I'll take your advice and just walk by! We saw the old show and enjoyed it some (mainly because of the pyrotechnics) but the crush of people was pretty miserable.

They acutally showed some of the new show on the Travel Channel (I am sure they will replay it about 100 more times). The show was called something like "What's New in Vegas 2004". I saw the original Pirate show a year or two ago and I am really disappointed to see the direction that Treasure Island is leaning towards. The new show looked like a complete waste of time and was just one more lame attempt to sell something with sex. I understand their view that they no longer want to cater to the "family" crowd who don't contribute as much money to hotels, casinos and alcohol as other guests but they seem to have really put on a trashy and sleezy image in my opinion. It's funny to me that a year or two ago I kept reading all these things about how they were trying to promote Vegas as a place the whole family could go to and now they are heavily promoting it as non family friendly Sin City.

One more vote in line with johncharles, the new show is moronic. Do not waste your time. It's funny that some in LV are trying to redefine LV to appeal to a different crowd. The crowd I saw at TI for the new show seemed younger AND poorer.

I haven't seen the new show, but the sentiments above seem to be the total mass opinion. I'm curious if anyone anywhere has liked the new show? And if not, I wonder how long before it will get changed. This is a good example of one of those "if ain't broke, don't fix it".

The sirens' show really follows the lame pattern that Treasure Island is now falling into. Calling the hotel "TI" is really pathetic in my opinion--they've taken a great marketing theme and 'look' and turned the whole TI experience into just another hotel. LOVED the old pirate show and hate what they've done to the entire hotel. Honestly, it's like you're at the Monte Carlo anymore when walking through TI--boring boring boring. We stayed at the Mirage in January and didn't even bother walking over for the sirens' show. We did see a bit of it one night as we tried to get through the crowd but I'm with the poster who said that the Bellagio fountain show beats this hands down. I hate to admit it but the Bellagio fountains made me cry--it was so gorgeous and moving.

I was afraid this would be the case as soon as they took down the skull and swords sign out front and removed all the treasure chests in the alcoves above the casino. Even the door handles that had a skull as the knob were gone last August as they made way for the new T.I.
What a shame. Ever since Steve Wynn sold out to MGM all his properties have suffered if you ask me. Especially the service.

I've stopped at the old (pre TI) Treasure Island - the place never seemed to be overrun with kids. The pirate show always seemed to be a good crowd puller and plenty of people used to seemed to pile into the Casino afterwards.
I can only guess that the guy responsible for the overhaul of British Airways image 5 years or so ago (Removing the union jack and destroying the airlines identity)has recently joined the board.
I'm sure they will have all the figures that prove the makeover is necessary - only time will tell.

Hubby and I are staying at TI on Memorial Day weekend, so I'll post a report about the "makeover" from the guest's POV when we return. I couldn't argue with TI's suite prices, and their amenities compared with other hotels in a similar price range. So, we'll see how it goes.

We just stayed there mid March and I personally wouldn't stay there again. The rooms were fine and the rate was ok but it lacks anything unique and it's at the end of where I travel on the strip. I saw the new show on the Travel Channel prior to our trip, we watched alittle of the new show from our room windows but didn't bother to actually watch from below. One would think with all the popularity that pirate movies have received in the last year that they would have re-considered their TI "tasteless" revamp. Fine, if they don't want to cater to families but come up with something more original. I saw one baby there over our whole stay. They replaced their crossed swords sign with a generic looking "TI" sign (do they really think people will stop calling it Treasure Island?), they painted the outside of the hotel a dark cranberry color, came up with a bunch of one word marketing phrases that include "TI" within the word and removed nearly everything that resembles pirate. Also, nearly all shops and restaurants are closed whereas Venetian and others have more options. Maybe they'll get the hint that they need to revamp their marketing/management group.
