My husband, friends and I will be traveling to Mackinac Island later this summer. We would like to stay two nights in the Traverse City area and then one night in Mackinaw before visiting the Mackinac Island. We are interested in visiting some of the wine vineyards on the LeeLanau Penninsula and spending at least one day at Sleeping Bear Dunes hiking etc. I would really appreciate any recommendations for places to stay. Also, any favorites with the vineyards/wineries? Thank you.

Old Mission Peninsula was our favorite place in the Traverse City area: http://www.wineriesofoldmission.com/
We loved that area of Michigan (the Lake Michigan shore was a delightful surprise to us first-time visitors) and enjoyed all the wineries. The more, the better, I say, for that's the best way to appreciate the differences in their surroundings, their style, and the personalities involved. Madonna's dad's winery was closed the day we were there, but it's easy to find.
The Leelanau Peninsula wineries are listed on this site:

It's hard to pick a favorite. Both Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau Peninsula are so pretty, the drive between the wineries is half the fun.
When you do your day trip to Sleeping Bear, try to stop in the town of Glen Arbor for lunch and to visit the cute shops and galleries. Don't miss Cherry Republic.

Sorry I can't help with hotels....I am lucky enough to have parents who retired to this area so I always have a place to stay!
