We are driving from n.c. to nantucket with our dog....are planning on making an overnight stop somewhere around Mystic, CT, but our plans are very flexible...Does anyone know of any neat state park areas or towns where we could spend the night? were thinking about mystic, but starting to sound too "commercial" for us...any insight appreciated...

There are a number of websites that provide info on lodging that accepts dogs. (Do a google search for traveling with a dog) Here's a URL for just one of them with lodging listings in Conn.

Here's another with info on Conn. state parks (I find the info on what's allowed a bit confusing though.)

Mystic is somewhat commercial. The website above has a seemingly neat feature called "follow the yellow brick road" where you can plug in your start & end points & they provide pet friendly places to stay along the way. I put in NC to Nantucket & this is what came up.

Unfortunately many of the links "don't work" but the info may be correct. Old Saybrook is lovely. So is Bradford, but haven't found any pet friendly listings there.
thanks mclaurie...will check those sites out....
