Traveling to Savannah and Ft. Meyers

My husband and I have a wedding in Naples, Florida on Memorial Day weekend. My in-laws offered to watch our sons (ages 6 and 3 1/2) but they live in Hilton Head (we live in New Jersey). So we will fly into Savannah, but then I will have to fly to Ft. Meyers 2 days later and there are no direct flights. Does anyone have any suggestions on other airports or ways to get to and from Ft. Meyers from Savannah? It's all so complicated. Thanks.

Best bet is the 4 to 5 hour flight (which includes the connection in Atlanta) or an eight hour drive.

Rent a car and drive. It will probably be less tiring than the flights, and you could stop along the way for an overnight stay. Go south on I-95 until you reach A1A headed west just before Jacksonville, then A1A become highway 301 cutting across the state and down to Ocala. From there, you could choose to stay overnight in Ocala at any of several nice motels, or head farther south on I-75 all the way to the Tampa area. Again, lots of motels all along the way. Good luck.

I looked on Travelocity and there is a Delta flight that connects through Atlanta--total 5 hour flight. Savannah nor even Charleston is a hub so you are not going to get a direct flight. Plus, and I know this from experience, Ft. Myers is hard to get to from anywhere. I don't consider a 5 hour time too bad. And driving to Ft. Myers is not even on the radar--it is really far south.

Actually I just plugged in your real date (Memorial Day) and am quite amazed that the fare is so low with no Saturday night stay. I assume the wedding is on Saturday. You may have to arrive on Friday night, or maybe you already factored that in. The fare is only $245.

Sorry, can't get all thoughts together. Have you thought of flying your in laws to Jersey and you fly to Ft. Myers direct. It would be cheaper for sure.

Or look into using Air Tran. Don't they fly to Savannah and FM? Fly to Atlanta, get the boys onto connecting flights to Savannah while you head to Ft. Myers.

Or fly NJ to Jacksonville. Get the in-laws to meet you there (2 hr. drive for them). Rent a car and drive to Ft. Myers, 6 hrs.
