Travel Inn? Yankee Stadium
Planning to go to New York the last week of June. Would appreciate any info on the Travel Inn on 42nd St near theatre district. Safe area? Rates are $175. Any better suggestions? Would like to see a Yankee game. Best way to get there - limo or subway? Also heard of a boat that takes you there. Any info on this boat would be appreciated. Would I need to order tickets in advance for Cleveland or TB game? Want to see the normal tourist sites in NYC. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

While the Travel Inn isn't bad, it's not in a great location. It's a 42nd St. & 10th Ave. It's two very long blocks from the theater district and is a quiet area at night. You can do better location-wise and price-wise.
The subway is the fastest, easiest and cheapest way to get to Yankee Stadium. It's stops right there.
As for buying tickets in advance, you usually don't have to for Cleveland or Tampa Bay during the week. If it's a weekend, you might have a problem if it's a special day (i.e., Bat Day, Old Timers Day, etc.).

Oh my jim:
Please do not stay at the Travel Inn!!!
It is a transient hotel and in dire need of repair.
How about the Wolcott?? 4 west 31 St (right off 5th AV)The reviews seem to be pretty good 212-268-2900 They are located around the corner from the Empire State building and not far from either subway to take you to Yankee Stadium. As for Yankee Stadium, do yourself a favor and take the subway. The D train on the Westside and #4 on the Eastside take your right their with no hassles. Parking a car or a limo is almost impossible. I would try to get the tickets for the games you want to see in advance Ticketmaster?? I am not sure who you would get them from. the phone number to the stadium is 718-293-4600

NY Waterways has ferry service. Its $10-15 per person round trip. They pick up downtown, 34th and FDR and uptown on the east side. Its a nice way to go to the game! We took the office on a trip to the game. They all loved the ferry. They also sell beer and food on the way. If you take it from downtown you get to see the entire east side from the water. Same view as if you paid to sit hostage on the Circle Line for 3 hours! I think its worth the trip. Do need to make res. in advance for evening games. online: www.nywaterway.com. Check out the Comfort and Quality Inns on 46 Street @ 5th Ave. I think the price is the same if not cheaper and the neighborhood is central to walking to alot of sites

take the subway to yankee stadium. on game days it's loaded with yankee fans. it take you right there and they run every few minute. you may get stuck waiting for a boat depending on the timing of the game. The subway is also much cheaper, $3 roundtrip. if you go to the game early for batting practice you may even see a player on the subway. we got an autograph on the #7 to shea.

Jim: Our group of 4 did the same thing last year in May. We stayed near Columbus Circle at a Holiday Inn between 8th & 9th Ave., I believe. My son stayed at a Day's Inn near the theater district. Both places were ok for about $135 a night. We went to two games and took the subway both times. One time it was after midnight coming home and the crowds were all helpful and the experience was good. You can get a clean room in Midtown area for less than most posters here believe. They are NOT fancy and the noise level can be bad. Block to block the area changes around 10th Ave. as the poster above said. The Holiday Inn Midtown was on a street which has a lot of 3 or 4 story walk ups. There was a street party directly across from the hotel one night at a private residence that had lots of noise. But I have heard of the loud noise problem in $300 a night rooms in NYC.
