We (two of us) are travelling to Boston for work and would like to drive around for five days in mid April experiencing the countryside, living in cosy but not expensive cottages and through mountains and wherever there is good scenery including lakes etc. want to relax and take it easy and not really very keen on historic places. Have got suggestions on places in Vermont/New Hampshire and Maine. Most important do not want to be in very cold weather and would like to decide between these three places where driving is relaxed with no parking issues. Please suggest..

Not sure what "very cold weather" is to you; mid-April is still quite chilly in New England, though temps should be above freezing even at night. If you're looking for mountains and lakes, I'd focus on New Hampshire: the Lake Regions and the White Mountains.
At that time of year most of the flowers aren;t out yet and many trees are not yet in leaf - so I'm not sure how pretty the countryside will be - this is sometimes called mud season. And it can still be quite chilly esp at night.
You should probably look at b&bs or small inns. Many cottages are not winterized and will not be opened up until some time in May. We had a blizzard last Friday, April 1 and could have very warm weather or another blizzard later in the month. However, it also means that places like Lake Winnipesaukee are pretty quiet. People haven't put their boats in yet, either.
Vermont is very rural except for a few big cities like Burlington. Southern NH (below Manchester) is built up except for the quiet SW corner of the state. The southern coast of Maine is always busy (south of Portland). You shouldn't have any problem driving around.
