Travel in July in Northern Idaho

Our family is tentatively planning a ten day trip to Northern Idaho area (to visit a friend and explore).

We were considering making a route from Cour d'Alene to Glacier National Park to Calgary (for the Big Stampede) and back to Cour d'Alene. We have two young children. I am concerned about whether this might be too much driving. We would really like to explore Glacier National and do some short hikes. Does anyone have any advice?
