Transportation from SFO to North Beach at night

I need to get four people from the airport to North Beach. It will probably be close to midnight. What is the best, most reliable way to get there? Taxi? I assume if a taxi is best, I won't need to call in advance because they will just be waiting outside at the airport? Would it be better to hire a car service? If so, any recommendations? Thanks!

Car service use is very rare here. Cabs line up outside baggage claim. And yes, a taxi is your best (practically your only) bet.

The last BART train leaves the airport station at 11:54 PM. Chances are the car rental counters are closed before then.

You don't want BART, and even though the rental desks would be open - there is NO reason you'd want to rent a car (not quite sure why they were even mentioned as options)

As sf7307 mentions -- a cab is the best and easiest way to get to North Beach.

Even if it were daytime, BART is not a good option -- first of all, for four people, it would cost almost as much as a taxi, and secondly, the closest BART station is a 15-20 minute walk to North Beach. As for a car, unless you need a car in the city (you don't), there'd be no reason to get one, and parking in North Beach is very difficult.

Definitely not renting a car and I wouldn't want to use public transportation that late at night in a place I am not very familiar with. I was debating between a taxi and a car hire and it looks like a taxi is the way to go. Thanks!

Shuttle service might still be available on the upper level (taxis on the lower arrival level).

Like BART, there would be no $$ savings using a shuttle service for four people. In fact, I think a taxi would be cheaper.
