Trail Ridge Road Will be Closed This Weekend

For the first time in several years CDOT will fail to have Trail Ridge Road open by the Memorial Day Weekend. Too much snow in May. Also means that many of the upper camp grounds will remained closed because of too much snow or mud.

With that much snow now, will it be open by Father's Day weekend in June? We're looking at possibly going through there that Saturday.

It should be. There is no new snow in the forecast.

Meant to add that none of the other high passes are open either. That includes Independence Pass between Leadville and Aspen. A lot of late snow this winter.

How fast does it melt? Will we be able to see the tundra? Coming from SD, we definitely don't need to go anywhere to see snow; we look at it all winter!

I could reverse my loop and push it back about 4 days or so if that would be better.

zinniadaisy, it might be helpful for you to check out cotrip.org for travel alerts, road conditions, road work etc. for your planned route. fmpden, looks like you have a real traffic mess getting out of Denver for the long weekend.

It is always a mess going into and out of the mountains over holiday weekends. You are not going to see much tundra above the timber line. That could be mid to late June. Lower levels will be clearer.
