Tours of Hasidic Williamsburg

Tours led by a woman who was raised in the culture:

Recreating the shtetl -- suddenly I understand more about Hasidic culture.

I hope you didn't think my comment was dismissive -- I think it sounds interesting as well. I've sometimes wondered why the Hasidim wear 19th century Polish garb, and the article answered that question.

Have fun. Sorry, as my father was born into a Satmar Hassidic family in Romania, I wont be taking this tour. The stories he shared with me dont give Hassidim a very good light, perhaps Lubavitch but not Satmar. Hard to generalize about a group of people. Strikes me like an episode of The Twilight Zone when the humans are the zoo animals.

I agree with LBloom, the tour strikes me as odd. They are highly insular people who do not like the scrutiny of the outside world.

I would monitor her tours and see how the community responds.

The article speaks to how the community responds, which is ambivalent ly.

Fra_Diavolo, it is good that you learned that; nothing wrong with learning something new.

I would still like to see how the community responds.

Tomsd

I assume your "really" is in response to this topic, just what is another matter.
