We're heading to hook up with some friends at Topsail Island in early August. Our friends have rented a beachouse for a week but we can only join them for 4 nights. Can anyone recommend a decent place on the island that rents by the day (preferably the north beach). Thanks.

Trip Ideas
You may not want to chance this, but if you wait until closer to the time of your trip, many rental companies that offer only week-long stays will rent for shorter periods if they have available units. What size place are you looking for, and are you looking for a specific location (Villa Capriani, St. Regis, etc.)?
There are only a couple of hotels on Topsail Island - We stayed at the Island Inn for several nights a couple years ago and it was perfectly fine. You may want to check them out. I think they are the only hotel on the beach. Most of the places on the Island are privately owned beach houses. Check the local island realty sites and call someone to see if you can work a deal -- the worst they can do is say no. It IS a lovely beach. Both the sand and water are heavenly.
Sea Vista, Breezeway and the Jolly Roger Motels on the south end are a possibilities. During the real estate explosion, several motels and restaurants on Topsail were sold and demolished, to the detriment of the community. You might also want to call one of the better realtors on the island(Ward, Bryson or Century 21) a couple of days before you leave for Topsail and ask if you can rent for four days. They might be glad to get your business as rentals have slipped this year.
We recently stayed at the Jolly Roger. It is by the pier. Wonderful! Great views, good rates and fishing off the pier if you like.
