Tonga Room - Reviews of food?

Have read postings here about how fun the Tonga room is for drinks, etc. Has anybody eaten there in recent years? Has the food gone downhill? It's for a special occasion, and kids will be along...I know they'd enjoy the atmosphere. But, how does the food measure up? (noticed entree prices are quite expensive...$25) Thanks!

Assuming you are talking about the Tonga Room at the Fairmont in SF, you might consider just paying for the happy hour buffet. I didn't have dinner there but the appetizers were reasonably decent.

The food is ok but after one drink I'm sure you won't care!
I've actually only odered appetizers, the coconut shrimp was really good. Ryan's suggestion about the happy hour buffet is a good one. It's very inexpensive and they have a ton of food.

But, at Happy Hour, they wouldn't have the musical entertainment..."rain storm" thing, would they? (I know it's sort of funky, but I'm sure the kids in our group would love that part.)
Thanks for the reviews, so far!

I went there 6 months ago. It was okay. The atmosphere is kind of fun. We went for drinks and appetizers. They do have a cover charge. I do not remember what time that starts.

The appetizers were pretty good. The drinks fine, but expensive.....typical SanFrancisco style.

It was my birthday and they announced it and was kind of cool. I think for 2 of us with drink and appetizers it was $55.00....a little steep.

Worth going to...fun atmosphere.

Keep me posted!!

I agree food is mediocre, but loved the silly show. We got the appetizer buffet and it was fine. Drinks were not so hot either, but had to see the "rain show". we were glad we did not spend the $ there for a full meal. There are so many other options!
