Tis the season...pre-cruise hotel recommendations in Anchorage?

Jump to last reply

Actually, we HAVE done an Alaskan cruise once before - southbound from Seward to Vancouver, same as this time. But, we went very early in the season, had Hilton rewards points, and prices were a lot lower. Oh - and it was just for one night, catching the train the next morning.

This time, we have a family vacation - DH and I, his aunt & uncle, my cousin and friend. We need 3 rooms, for 2 nights. Wanting to stay downtown (of course) and we will catch that early train with everybody else in the cruise crowd. This is May 30-June 1. Looks like most prices are around $200/night, leaving off the higher end and lower-end choices.

Would like some thoughts on:

- Sheraton Downtown (big hotel amenities; how is location?)
- Anchorage Hotel (historic and great location, but small and requires pre-pay)
- Clarion Suites (best price but most room selections unavailable); what about location to downtown?)

And any other recommendations for hotels, plus restaurants and general things to do. Last time, we wished we had at least a full day for Anchorage. We plan to stay in town and basically do downtown and whatever that doesn't require a car.
