Tips for great Las Vegas Hotel Rates
Hi
Planning to stay in LV for around 4-5 nights in August (coming from UK). We stayed at Caesars Palace on our last visit and would love to go back, but I can't believe the mega rates!!!! Last time we had a fabulous deal direct from the hotel.
Can anyone recommend a website or contact where I can obtain fab rates or can anyone offer any tips? Is it true rates are cheaper Monday-Thurs?
Many thanks.

Rates are definitely cheaper mid-week than on the weekend. Whenever I've gone to LV in the summer, the fares always seemed higher. I don't know why since it's insanely hot then. You may want to check to see if there are conventions in town on the dates you are considering because that will effect rates dramatically. The best luck I've had with LV is signing up for notifications of deals with the hotels themselves, but I'm thinking of using priceline for my next trip to LV.

Rates are considerably lower from Monday-Thursday and sometimes Sunday-Thursday. You might want to check with a booking agency such as the Las Vegas Tourist Bureau (LVTB) or i4lasvegas. I just recently booked with i4lasvegas and their rates were considerably lower than those offered directly through the hotel I was interested in.
There are great deals to be had at specific hotels for specific dates as well. Most online booking agencies will advertise these rates under "special hotel deals" or something similiar. These deals seem to be advertised only a short time in advance though, so you may not find anything for August just yet.
I've also found that sometimes you can get a better deal by booking later, rather than booking months in advance.
You might be disappointed if you're looking to stay at a particular hotel however.
Just a note - if you book through an agency, the full amount is usually required up front, so be sure to check their cancellation policy.

You might want to consider downloading Travelaxe - a pretty interesting tool that quickly compares the prices on various travel sites like Orbitz.com, Hotels.com and then displays all these prices in a spreadsheet-like format so that you can easily compare and contrast the prices offered by each site for the various hotels. Though it's missing a couple of the big sites (ie Travelocity and Expedia) it's still a pretty informative tool. You do have to download and install a small applet on your PC (which you can find here:
Travelaxe.com
Obviously any installation of software involves risk, so I did a web search ont "travelaxe" to see if this tool is legit and come up with an on-line article from PC World magazine where they highly recommend it:
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...09,pg,1,00.asp
You might want to take a look.
Travelaxe allows you to search for and book airfare, hotel rooms etc. I would still check with the various hotels themselves and aqlso check Travelocity, Expedia, and Costco (if you are a member) to see how they compare to the prices displayed on Travelaxe, but it can be a definite time saver and eye-opener in regards to the range of advertised prices.

PS - Wrote a more detailed write-up about the tool and posted it here:

We just got back from LV and ended up going in the middle of the week for better rates. Plus sign up on the hotel's websites because they'll email you deals directly that aren't published anywhere else. We stayed at the Mirage right next to Caesars and really liked it and got a great rate.

I feel your pain. We'll be in California for an extended time from late July to early September and booked our flight into SFO and home from Las Vegas. At the time, I found that although we were going to return on Friday, Sept. 10, we could save over $50 each by returning a day later -- on Sept. 11. Now, of course, the extra cost of the Vegas hotels for the Friday night will more than eat up that difference. Oh well, live and learn.
I thought I might even try Priceline closer to the time, as if you enter 5star on the strip, apparently it will almost surely be the Venetian. But again to do a three night stay including a Friday, may not be much better than special other bookings. I'm actually thinking of booking all three nights somewhere (maybe Alladin) with great prices for Wed. and Thurs. night and then cancelling the Fri. night if I can get a good last minute rate for that. But I don't want to book with any of the agencies that don't allow cancellations or charge you for the same.

Dear SallyB
We just got back from our first trip to vegas. I bought some books and did some research before we went. We stayed at the Bellagio and Venetian and we had a great time. The Bellagio is located mid strip and is a great hotel. Check prices on the expedia, priceline etc... or whatever travel engine you want, then call the hotel direct and see what kind of price the hotels will give you. I got great deals on our rooms by calling both hotels direct. Much better than the discount hotel internet sites. As noted above the rates are cheaper mid week and get more expensive on the weekends. Also the rates on the rooms believe it or not can change minute to minute. If you call the hotel and they give you a great rate go for it. You might call back in 15 minutes and it will be $ 20.00 to $50.00 more. Get on the internet and check out the hotels web site they do post special offer dates. On these dates you can get rooms at these beautiful hotels for a steal.
Forget about waiting in lines at the hotels for cabs. The strip is very easily navigated on foot by using the local bus that runs up and down the strip every 15 minutes. Its $ 2.50 one way or your can get a pass for $5.00 that is good for 24 hours. It is the 301 strip bus and it runs from the Old Glitter Gluch area (Fremont Street)Old downtown Vegas all along the strip pass all the hotels on the Vegas strip and back again. Its stops at various bus stops along the strip. If you have any questions the bus drivers are very nice and are happy to help you. If you are staying at the Bellagio there is a bus stop right in front of the Alladin which is right across the street from the Bellagio. Getting to the your strip hotel from the airport is a breeze. There are numerous bus transportation options when you come out of the airport exit areas. You can get a bus to drop you off at your hotel for $4.75 per person. These small buses are all over the place and they drop and pick people up at hotels along the strip all day long. You can purchase your tickets for the bus at the booths out side the airport. The drivers are very nice and helpfull. We saw "O" at the Bellagio it was a great show. If you want to see a show at a hotel you are staying at and it says it is sold out. Call the hotel direct tell them you are staying there and you will probably be able to gets some tickets. The hotels will hold back tickets for their guest to purchase. Another option for discounted tickets is to go downtown to the mall which I think is located on the left had side of the street as you are walking towards MGM. It is located amost across from New York New York. It has a big coke Can sign in front of it. There is a place in there call Tickets to night. Everyday at 2:00 pm they put all unsold tickets for the evening shows that are still available on sell for half price. So if you want to get tickets for a hot show you would need to get there early. Happy hunting. Good luck on your upcoming trip to Las Vegas.
Peace, Raven

Because Las Vegas is southern California's weekend playground, the best hotel offers can often be found in the L.A. Times Sunday Calendar section. You need not live in SoCal to get these rates. The Times Calendar deals can be found at

Midweek is always cheaper, because Angelenos flock to Vegas for weekends. Another money-saving tip is to go to the individual hotels' websites and sign up for the gaming club. And, for future trips, joining the players' club can get you discounts for return visits.
