Tipping in Charleston, S.C.
Good morning, we are heading to Charleston in a few minutes. I have one quick question, if a valet carries two ladies bags upstairs and parks the car what would be the tipping average cost?
Dumb question maybe but we weren't expecting help with our small bags. Probably three small bags apiece and a hang up bag. Seriously small bags. Thanks!

If you don;t want help carrying your stuff up you can certainly feel free to decline. When on a business trip and all I have is a small wheelie and a computer bag I take it upstairs myself since I don't want to wait for a bellman.

Gretchen, what is the local custom on valet parking tips?
Most places, you tip the person who brings your car, not the person who takes it away, but when I stay at the kind of place that has valet parking, I am usually not driving, so it may be different around the country.

I've never stayed anywhere where the guy who parked my car brought my luggage to the room. I agree that if you can manage your own small bags then do. A big aggravation is normally their taking your bags and delivering them to your room some time later. And als agree to tip the guy who brings your car, not the one who takes it.
