Things to do in Hartford, CT
I will be in Hartford, CT for a few days for a conference in mid-May. I am looking for interesting things, places to eat and things to visit while I am there. Does anyone have any ideas? I doubt that I'll be able to get too far out of town. Thanks for any ideas.

Last time I was in Hartford I had dinner at Treva in West Hartford--it was outstanding. http://www.trevact.com/ West Hartford also has many other good restaurants--including one of the Max restaurants--Max's Oyster Bar. http://www.maxrestaurantgroup.com/ Trumbull Kitchen and Max Downtown in downtown Hartford are also good as emalloy said.
And here are the websites for the museums emalloy recommended--all very interesting.

In addition tothe above, there are many good restaurants in Hartford (no need to venture to WH). Max Downtown is amongst the best, peppercorn's for traditional very good Italian food,Dish and their partner Sorella are very good. trumbull Kitchen is a bit of a hip place with great ffod as well. Hartford Public Library on Mainstree has the nbest lunch in town . It is provided by The Kitchen at Billings Forge...also a good restaurant. Speaking of the Library. It is one of the bet in the country, winning manya ccolades. Check out their web site for programming/events. In addition to the things mentioned there is a historic house on Main street (Butler McCook huse) and teh interior of the municipal building (City Hall) is worth a quick peak. Main Street also boats the home of the travellers and an IM Pei residential tower (Bushnell Tower)... and a gem of a park in the middle (Bushnell Park).... and teh capital building has a great gold dome! Come to think o=f it teh core of Downtown is pretty cool!

We just got back. It turns out that Hartford is a pretty cool city. We did not make it to the Atheneum or the inside of the state house, but we did get lucky and get into a tour of the Civil War Memorial Arch, and we walked through Bushnell Park a couple of times. The Mark Twain House was wonderful and we made it into the visitor's center for the Harriet Beecher Stowe house, although we didn't get into the house itself.
The DASH bus around downtown was indispensable for giving us a sense of where things were so that we could walk to places later. Our best meal was at Black-Eyed Sally's, but we had to get there early. Agave Mexican was packed so we didn't get in there.
We definitely enjoyed Hartford; I hope I can take my family back soon.
