I am taking the kids (10 and 7) to Vernal (from SLC) for fall break. We will spend Thurs am driving, Thurs afternoon at the Field House Museum, then Friday at Dino NM--viewing, hiking, driving, etc. I am trying to think of something to do to break up the drive on Saturday when we come back. Fantasy Canyon is 40 miles south of Vernal (???) so that seems a bit much, but maybe it is worth it? No events in Duschene or Roosevelt. By the time we get to Heber, we might as well be home.
Any ideas??

Have you considered traveling north? You could stop at Flaming Gorge Dam, detour up to the Red Canyon visitor area, head over to Manila via Sheep Creek, maybe even take the fantastic geologic loop there. Stop at Ft Bridger- I don't know if anything is available there during the off season, but it is open year round to look at.
Without stops it is only about 30 min longer.
That sounds doable. I wanted to go up to Flaming Gorge but was thinking it would take too long. But that sounds good. Thanks!!
I doubt the leaves would still be out, maybe you'll need to watch out for hunters??
I will check to see if it is bow season or rifle season. Don't mind bow hunters--rifle season i won't chance!!
