Thge Heights - NYC

I am returning to New York and would like to show my wife where I lived 60 plus years ago. It was in Washington Heights, on both Fort Washington Avenue and Cabrini Blvd., near Fort Tryon Park. I'm sure it has changed a lot. Would this be a safe neighborhood to walk around in? If so, any places to eat lunch around there?

I can't see any reason why you couldn't walk around there; I guess it depends on how far down from the park you are going, but it should be safe during the day.

If the weather is nice (and if it's before the end of October), consider having lunch at the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park. There's a very nice cafe, though the food is a little expensive. It's a great walk up there from Cabrini Blvd., and the Cloisters is a beautiful museum. I think there's a cafe in the park itself as well, but I haven't been there for a couple of years. I can't recommend any restaurants in the neighborhood.

New Leaf sounds very nice. Thanks for the link. The old neighborhood still sounds good. (I lived at 240 Cabrini and 567 Ft. Washington.)

Hey jasodiam, we've probably tripped over each other in the area, and I'm sure you know Karen and Alec, from next door.

On the original question, a FAV in that area is Kismat, for Indian food. I had one of the best dinners I have every had there. The food is excellent, and well priced. 187 and Ft. Washington.
