The Wizardly World of Harry Potter - opening at Universal Orlando

Just saw the CEO announce it on the Today show. JK Rowling was involved as were the production designers from the movies. It will be a three dimensional recreation of locations in the books (Hogwarts, the village, the Enchanted Forest) with rides and restaurants, etc. Sounds amazing.

This muggle will be there!

Me too!
I got the name wrong though...Wizarding...
I think I'm going to try to book a room at the Portofino hotel now. Maybe a month after the planned opening...I do hate crowds.
How cool is this going to be!?!?!?

so, ok do you think MOVING to Orlando would be too much????? I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan as well. I'm re-reading all the books right now before the big launch of book 7 and am halfway through book 5 right now.

This park sounds amazing and I'll bet bigger than the Disney Parks are going to be in the future.

I heard on NPR the other day about the opening of a Dickens based attraction/theme park in the UK. All I could think of when listening to the description is "why doesn't someone do this with Harry Potter - that would be way be interesting. And lo and behold, Universal is doing it. I cannot wait.

321go, I started that post but then deleted.

I would love to meet up for a butterbeer!

October is the best time to do parks in Orlando IMO. So...anyone up for a GTG in Orlando in October 2009?

How exciting for IOA! I've heard rumors for a year that a Harry Potter section would be added to the park. I'm excited to know it's true.

They're building on to the park and also re-theming part of an existing area.

IOA is a great park that is overshadowed by Disney. This will be a huge boost for them!

That sounds like a lot of fun! I'm also rereading the series at the moment.

starrs,

Thanks for this post. I'll have to tell my daughter (31) about this. She's a huge HP fan. Laughs at herself for being at the BAM store with tons of kiddos to get each new release at midnight. We always make time to see the movies on the first day. And this includes my DH who hates crowds. But for this, he makes an exception.

DH doesn't read as fast as she does, so she's getting him the final (sob) book on tape so they can finish about the same time. She'll burst if she can't discuss it with him right away.

Maybe by October of 2009 my DH will be retired and we can meet with you guys to share a butterbeer.

We're in- but will it be open and really functional in October? The website says "late 2009 or early 2010"- with construction delays and stuff, I'm wondering if we wouldn't do better in March...

Anyone else thinking that there's no way she can kill off Harry in the last book just from a marketing perspective? I know I'll find out next week, but I don't wanna wait!!! stomp pout

We just got home from the latest movie. It was great fun, much better than the others, I think.

I can hardly wait until next week. I think Snape is a good guy.

I agree that Snape is a good guy and maybe Dumbledore isn't dead, well, maybe.

I think it might be Hagrid that dies and I think the wedding at the begining of the book will be Lupin and Tonks.

She can't kill off Harry,,,,,,,she just can't.....sniff, sniff.
